It's Time To Break Up The American Empire

Secession Is Our Only Peaceful Way Out of the Mess We’re In

The average person indoctrinated (uh, educated?) in American government schools is taught that our constitutional republic just sprang up from the ground out of nowhere in 1789 and we’ve been living in the best system ever devised by man since. Flowers and birds and love hooray! But the fact is that humans have been experimenting with republican and democratic forms of government for thousands of years. From the Sumerian city states, to the Greek city states, to Rome, to the Renaissance Italian city states, all the way to the efforts of the Dutch and Iroquois right before the US became a country: There is nothing new under the sun.

There Is No Way To Maintain a Giant Republic

With these experiments they learned a thing or two. One thing they learned is that republics and democracies only work for small populations in small areas. If you get too big, you become something else. You become an empire, oligarchy, monarchy, something, but not a republic. America is an empire right now, most of us just won’t admit it. Some philosophers thought that no republic could survive with more than 100,000 citizens. I wouldn’t go that far, but certainly 330 million citizens is too many for representative government.

The Idea That Any Of Us Are Represented In DC Is A Joke

When the Constitution went into effect, there were about 10,000 citizens per congressional rep. At that time, someone asked John Adams (a man some called the father of the Constitution) when he thought that number would get so high that we’d be back in the old taxation without representation situation? John Adams thought that more than 30,000 citizens per congressional rep would be too many for any rep to really rep. Today we’re at approximately 800,000 citizens per congressional rep. The idea that any one of us is represented in DC is laughable. If you don’t have MINIMUM $100,000 a year to donate to political campaigns, nobody in DC gives a darn what you think.

Adding More Representatives Won’t Fix The Problem

So why don’t we expand the House of Representatives? Again, through thousands of years of trial and error it’s been established that representative bodies over about 500 people are ineffective and unwieldy. So the US House of Representatives was wisely capped at 435 in 1929. Adding more reps to the pile is not the answer to our woes.

The late great Thomas Jefferson himself predicted that as America grew larger in land area and population that it would naturally (peacefully) break into regional republics. Sadly for us, that sociopathic control freak Abe Lincoln killed a few million Americans to prevent a secession in the 1860’s and that event strikes fear into the heart of Americans even today.

But think about how ridiculous it is to have 330 million people spread across a continent and even some far flung islands ruled by about 500 morally impaired crooks living in ONE CITY thousands of miles away from most of us! This is not republic. This is not democracy. This is an empire. They claim we are represented. But if we are, why is it that for 20 years Congress has had an approval rating below 20%?

Let’s Just Call It A “No Fault” Divorce

The way I see it, we can try to limp this empire along and end up with the average American enjoying as much liberty as the average Chinese citizen soon. Or we can break this empire up into some smaller republics. Of course, the California Soviet will be enjoying Venezuela style starvation soon, but the Wyoming Republic could make itself a Switzerland of the Rockies and enjoy decades of peace and prosperity.
