March 17, 2020--Practice/Daily Blog

Changing my blog for the time being as I am spending a lot of time in front of a computer rather than at the piano or organ. We had a meeting this morning (ironically there were more than 10 people in the room, going against the governor of Iowa's request) about online teaching. Nothing really new. I then spent the next couple of hours recording lectures. One day done, three 10 minute lectures. This is going to be labor intensive and doesn't assure a job in the future. Que sera. Life will continue after the plague. I got about an hour of organ practice in before getting a call from my wife that the library she works at will now be closed until further notice. Honestly, I am a bit scared by this. I think I will survive if I get the virus, but financially we will be in the hole. Luckily, both of us can work from home as long as the internet can take the uploading and downloading that will be going on. In a positive place, the Metropolitan Opera is offering free of charge their broadcasts of previous years--one every day for the foreseeable future. So, I am planning on downloading the app tomorrow.

On the organ, I worked on BWV 622 and began work on 623. 623 is a bit concerning, especially the left hand. It is really busy. I also spent some time on Vierne's Finale from the first Symphony.
