Union Parishad or Union is the lowest administrative unit of the rural area of Bangladesh. In 1870 under the Village Chowkidari Act, the union was formed in 1870 to initiate some rural bodies. Under this Act, a village is formed for each village to start the guard patrol system. The details of the formation of the union are recorded in the second and third phase of Bengal Chowkidari Manuil. The concept of a local government unit was created through the development of this process. Initially, its role was limited to security activities, and in later times it became the basis of the local government primary unit. [1] There are currently 4554 unions in Bangladesh.
