Having previously been scheduled for november and failed due to lack of consensus it remains to be seen if this will go through.
The target block is just a few blocks to be reached.
Everyone is in agreement that transaction fees and network speed for btc needs to be improved. Suggestions have been put ahead but challenge has been to get an agreement in place

It is ridiculors to spent as high as $150 a crypto currency that came to the foe to copete with traditional bank remittances. User have already shifted and started referring btc as a store of value rather than a payment cryptocurrency.
Miners are charging extra ordinary fees.
The new segwit2x is completely different, can even be mined with ASAICs! I don't know why they would change the original one. I feel like it is a money grab and will be another useless fork.

Pretty useless fork for sure. Perhaps that's why the original bitcoin price has not responded by gaining value for now
