Aleksa's Book Review: Deep Sea & Foreign Going

Written by the author of "99% of everything", this book does a better job of going into the details of the shipping industry and the frightfully appalling conditions that seafarers live in. It also discusses the history of shipping starting from the late renaissance.

The story of rats coming into Europe and starting the plague, all the way to Maersk's treatment of its Phillipino workforce is explained in no small amount of detail, however everything has a tinge of workers rights that reeks of social justice.

This book is certainly more informative than "99%" but is harder to digest not due to the amount of information inside, but rather the tone of the book which made me not enjoy it as much.

One thing I do know for certain: I will take passage on a cargo ship during this year to see how it functions - this has to be seen to be believed.
