Exactly. The term PTSD wasn't coined back then, they called it shell-shock among other things but it was there nonetheless. So many succumbed to it. I read an account on an artilleryman from WW1 and his struggle once he came back. He took his own life after 15 years of struggling to cope. The horses may have made a difference to many. I understand the quarantine issues of course, but I'm sure there could have been a way around it.
