I am so confused right now... WAIT!!! I promise you it will make sense!
Why not yet sick? Recently, NZ has been invaded by Influenza A (mostly), and the incubation period has not yet passed (for me) after my first known exposure, so I am just waiting and working from home. And the "cold" (I felt) today looks like it faded away... so it might have been just my body reacting.
Or at least it does not bother me anymore (if there is anything circulating in my blood, which, by the way, tests deny, I don't feel it anymore now).
Wife is recovering, but still not operational π€£ (fsck still running π€¦ββοΈ, and still in degraded mode). One kid got the same lane as Mom's... straight to 38C for at least 24 hours, and then he was faster than Mom's... getting back to 37 even without medication. That's the way, mate!
(Note: Mom/Wife took one and a half days and needed medication)
Oldest ones: no symptoms... they are gorillas πͺ anyhow... maybe Dad's genes π€·ββοΈ (not that I consider myself a gorilla, but you get the idea; I always was quite resilient to viruses or recovered quickly). Good nutrition matters a lot when being prepared for being sick, but probably also genes (don't quote me on that).
The asthmatic looks like skipping it too... maybe coughing too much killed it? (as in, didn't allow the virus to settle in the easiest spot = throat). I am no scientist... or doctor. And these are pure blasphemies of my own experiences (video games, movies, dreams, etc LOLOLOL).
Anyway, I am catching up... did some NEWWW discoveries on the "API node experience" as I am trying to replicate and add more operational resilience to my setup. Meanwhile, I am learning...
Interesting that the way the Postgres DB (HAF) ingestion works was not designed to have checkpointing at the initial BRUTAL sync (it has after being in sync) because of the speed-up advantage of the mass dumping process and then the index creation at the end. I would say it's normal to think like that, but my own HPC culture would say we always need checkpointing at ANY point if the cost of it is worth it long term. Basically, to allow ANY type of progress to never be lost (and yes, I know this kind of thinking has performance consequences), even with nobs and things that can aid with those decisions.
Note, maybe I haven't noticed the way it can be done... but I am always certain that is mean to start and finish the initial "sync" (at least until the indexes are created).
And because the HAF DB is increasing, that will only make sense the further we go forward. So, things like replaying or catching up with apps will be much less disruptive to nodes that are either already operational and just need to add new apps, or are basically starting from zero and either have multiple instances on the same machine or share hosting with other tools or software (I am in the context of containers here).
This is not a criticism; this is my "side" observation mixed with what I know about decentralised and shared storage things, where "checkpointing" at any time is paramount (at the cost of some other things).
I am still learning about the HAF implementation... once I have the capacity to recommend, I will make my own recommendations to the crowd that knows about these very well. And if it makes sense, make it public somewhere for anyone to consume.
Other than this, not much has happened; I have been completely under errands and doing mostly what my wife was doing, while still working my day job. It's fine, and in here, quite comfortable doing it, I would say.
Really enjoy being in this Country because of how comfortable I feel with that "family is always first" schema and the way people are here.

I can leave you with the hivemind massive SQL processing bit... which, by the way, is not over something very performant-wise (hence the discoveries and insights above). So, don't take these speeds for granted. But because I had space, I can do some experiments...

Last week, I had to fly, and for the first time in my life, I was the FIRST customer to enter the aircraft. And no, I am not on any kind of special membership or something, and I also usually wait for last-minute boarding because that means I can leave later for the airport or have more slack by not having to wait for it.
I smiled a lot at the crew and said, "This is my first time!", and when showing my seat, they immediately understood the reason I said that.
Going to the BACK OF THE PLANE!
Yes, the boarding was taking that into account... but still, I was never able to arrive first previously... so, two wins in one, if you like. Boarding from the front but first from the back (which, by the way, should be the normal thing to do everywhere) and being the first on the aircraft!
Why? Maybe you can guess?
