The #silvergoldstackers community’s traditional Secret Santa gift exchange is on again for 2025. In prelude to this annual gift exchange is @silverd510’s customary imitative; 12 Days of Christmas, While it may be too late to participate in the exchange, participation in the posting of your wish list list or desired gifts are still welcomed.
On the fifth day of Christmas, in October I overpaid for this...
To my dear Secret Santa,
I have a problem.
It was a battle between my heart and my mind.
Early October I was alerted to an Ebay seller located in New York State. The gentlemen of Dr. Who’s server (Danny’s Server) alerted me that some of his Dragon coin collection pieces appeared on Auction. Two items I instantly recognized after perusing the list; the first is this Tormint’s Embracing the Darkness Proof Plague Dr. silver round, and the other was a 2013 $1 Tuvalu The Demeter, Famous Ships that never sailed series. I could see the serial number #042 of the Demeter coin confirming that this was Danny’s.
There was another coin among these three, I recall it was a 1750s Ferdinand VI Pillar dollar in AU condition. The Pillar Dollar never appeared on this Seller’s store. I will have to presume it was already sold, has yet to be listed or still in the possession of one of his siblings. When he passed away back in May 2025 his sister divided up his estate at least three ways.
The three coins were part of a trove to lure me over to his New York state Ranch residence. It is a beautiful lush ranch away from the city. The ranch belonged to his sister, he was the caretaker who maintained the property and cared for the horses. Danny said that he would drive up to pick me up in Toronto.
He said he give the coins to me as the price for a kiss.
Reading between the lines it may as well be an engagement ring if I understand his thinking. I like him, love? That was a still a stretch at the time, perhaps slow to warm up but I enjoyed our almost daily chats. He’d take me to cheer on his Buffalo Bills. Close but no cigar, I’ve never seen someone take it so hard watching his team get eliminated before the Superbowl. Another plan was for us visit to his old neighborhood to his favorite hangouts, Folly Beach in South Carolina where Blackbeard ran the Queen Anne’s Revenge aground, and an old abandoned lighthouse that is rumored to be haunted.
I shouldn’t put so much value into these pieces. Irrational obsession is a better description of my behavior. My feelings were stronger for him than I thought because it hurt seeing these treasures going to strangers. I have to remind myself that this is only silver in the end. I’m buying out of emotion and grief rather by a well thought out plan.
And this segways into my Fifth Christmas Wish for 2025.
For the previous few years Danny was more than happy to get for me that year's Monarch Tombstone bar. Monarch has clearly stated that they do not ship direct to customers in Canada and I don't blame them for my thieving Postal system. Now that he is gone I will have to depend on you Santa should I be worthy of getting one.
If not, I can understand since this would be a bit steep and it is two Troy ounces of silver rather than the expected one ounce. The Raven has long been my spirit animal and this piece would fit in among my favorite sub-collections. This is obviously not a Christmas themed silver bar like the partridge in the pear tree so think of this as like the Charlie Brown Peanuts character Linus. I like him since he kind of gets Halloween mixed up with Christmas. 🎃🎄
By the advice of a friend my fishnet stocking is replaced by a black platform boot.
