Well for some unknown reason gold and silver are taking a hit today. Gold more then silver but both are down.
Rummaging through my recent box from my private security place, I came across a bunch of pieces that I will be sharing. Today I am going to share a piece that most likely most of you may not know about. It’s a silver medal from the Komsco Mint. It’s the South Korean Tiger series. Why is is considered a medal and not a coin? Because it has no dollar value minted on it.
The South Korean Tiger bullion series is a popular collection from KOMSCO that is available annually with new images. Originally a gold medal series only, as of 2018 the collection also boasts silver options for investors and collectors. This is the 3rd release in the South Korean Tiger Silver Series! Limited mintage of just 33,000 silver medals!
Obverse
A young tiger cub is shown with an inquisitive look on its face in the obverse design of 1 oz Silver 2020 South Korean Tiger Medals. The young cub is shown lying across the main gate to the Gyeongbokgung Palace as the silhouette of the Namsan Tower is shown in the right field. Inscriptions on this side include a small tiger cub paw print, Korean Tiger 2020, Seoul, and 1 oz.
Reverse
An artistic rendering of the Korean peninsula is found on the reverse side of 2020 South Korean Tiger Silver Medals. This design has been used as a common design element on the reverse of all Korean Tiger bullion medals. The peninsulas shape is formed using the letters of the Hangul, the Korean alphabet. In addition to the Taeguk, the national symbol, and a latent security image, this field of the coin has inscriptions of Republic of Korea and Fine Silver 999.
History
The obverse design of the 1 oz Silver 2020 South Korean Tiger Medal features new design elements that bring the human world into contact with the natural world. The Gyeongbokgung Palace that the tiger cub lies across was the main royal palace of the leaders of the Joseon Dynasty and was built in Seoul in 1395. The Namsan Tower featured to the right was built in 1971 as the first general radio wave tower. It is located on Namsan Mountain at the second-highest point in Seoul.
