Silver Chilean 5 Pesos coin/ Re-blog lottery for a chance to win 3 HSBI!

I've always liked the country Chile. I worked there for quite some time and the people are really nice. They also have some great food, I highly recommend it if you've never been there! You've probably noticed that in winter in the US most of the fruits are imported from there as well. While I was there I picked up some nice coins to start a collection. They have produced some really nice gold bullion coins if you're looking to pick up some gold, of course premiums are always and issue on anything gold anymore

This one I think I got at a coin shop in Santiago. It was an older silver coin but not too expensive. They also had some really high end items that I pretty much passed on. But here's the coin of the day!

About the coin:
Country: Chile
Denomination: Cinco Centavos
Mint: Casa de Monedas de Chile, Santiago
Composition: 50% silver
Weight: 1 grams
Diameter: 14 mm
Edge: Reeded
Demonetized: Yes
Designer: Louis-Oscar Roty
Obverse: Andean Condor on rock, lettering REPUBLICA DE CHILE (Republic of Chile) 0.5, O Roty
Reverse: Wreath with date and denomination, below hammer and sickle

One interesting fact about this coin I hadn't realized until just now is it was designed by the same Frenchman who also designed the French coin I shared a few days back. I though it was interesting that they outsourced to France on this coin, but was still minted in Santiago, Chile.
Definitely a pretty little coin, and only 50 percent silver. But I picked it up more for numismatic reasons anyway. Chilean coins are great to collect, but they can be a little pricey in higher grades. Thanks for stopping by, and if you have any comments or questions feel free to leave them below.

And my disclaimer: Gold and silver stacking can be a fun hobby but isn't for everyone. You can lose money. I'm not a financial advisor and this isn't financial advice, please always do your own research before spending your hard earned money.

You're welcome, you had lady luck on your side!

Andean Condor, not as elegant as the Bald Eagle but it say's Chile all over it.
@punkysdad have you got this one?

Yes, I have this too. Not as good a quality I believe buts fit nice in my bird collection.

You're a bird coin collector?

Yes, I pick up coins and banknotes themed with birds.

Very cool hobby!

Definitely not as elegant as the Bald Eagle, but a very pretty design. Maybe not as sexy a pirate treasure though!

lol they all seemed to have very similar designs back in the days

I hadn't really thought about it but you're right, the wreath on the back is a very common motif!

I wonder what the deal with that is

Maybe it was just easy and generic?

Never been to Chile but that's a cool coin!

Thanks, very cool country!

Very shiny! What is the other 50% composed of?

Usually it's copper with coins, but I didn't find a resource stating the content of the other 50 percent. Thanks!

Beautiful Chili five Pesos Silver coin my friend!🤗
Interesting that this was designed by the same Frenchman, do you know where Chile mints their coins?

The Casa de Monedas de Chile in Santiago the capital city. Interestingly the mint was established by Spain in 1749.

Sounds like several countries had their ties into Chile………
Beautiful coin my friend!😊

Thanks! It's an interesting place to visit!
