in #slavery6 years ago

It is a day to honor countless contributions made by African Americans who suffered evils of slavery. It is celebrated on June 19th. Across the country, the day is marked with events and parades. On this day we recommit ourselves to defending the self-evident truth, boldly declared by our Founding Fathers, that all people are created equal."

Where does the name "Juneteenth" come from?

Juneteenth, which is also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is a combination of "June" and "nineteenth," in honor of the day that Granger announced the abolition of slavery in Texas.
