10 interesting things about sleep

in #sleep7 years ago

Sleep is a physiological state of complete rest, in which the whole body is restored to be able to resume its activity in everyday life, being absolutely essential to any human being.

Although scientists have failed to fully understand this phenomenon, there is enough information to help us figure out what happens to us once we close our eyes.

Here are some interesting things to know:

  1. Depending on the age, each of us needs a certain number of hours of daily sleep. So babies are sleeping about 16 hours a day, children aged 3 to 12 are sleeping for about 10 hours, 13 to 18 years - 9 hours, after 19 years, sleeping about 8 hours, and after 65 years we are sufficient 6 hours.

  2. During sleep, the body releases important hormones for the cells and the brain to regenerate , and the whole body eliminates toxins accumulated over the day.

  3. There are no sci-fi dreams. We only dream people and places we've seen, even if we do not remember them. "Premonitions" is a concept that scientists prefer not to say.

  4. Parasomnia is the totality of sleep-related disorders, normally during childhood and pathology if it persists at maturity. For example, agitation and sudden movements, caused by nightmares, sleepwalking, bruxism .

  5. 12% of us dreams only in black and white. It is said that the percentage was higher before the appearance of color televisions!

  6. Dreams are normal. People who never dream have personality disorders.

  7. The position we are sleeping can say something about our personality. The position of the fetus (on one side, with the knees gathered) is preferred by 41% of us. The position of the soldier (on the back) is adopted by 8% of us. Here comes a big pile of women who are obsessed with beauty during sleep. Sleep on one side facilitates the appearance of wrinkles, while sleep on the back stretches the skin.

  8. Did you know that 1 in 4 married couples sleep in separate beds? Speaking, of course, about the elderly, mostly disturbed by his partner's snoring or other stories.

  9. Sleep is more important than food. In the absence of food, the death caused by hunger occurs in 2 weeks, while 10 days without sleep are enough to kill us.

  10. Do you remember what you dreamed of? 5 minutes after waking, 50% of the dream was deleted, and after 10 we do not remember about 90% of the dream.
