While I agree that SNAP needs an overhaul, what is being proposed is a step backwards. By being judicial, families can get more food with the SNAP benefits the way they are, rather than the food that used to be provided pre-cash days on this system.

I can go to the store right now, and purchase $300.00 worth of food for less than $140.00 with using coupons, store incentives such as BOGO, and veteran/senior discount days, and of course rebates. I shop at all the local stores so I can get the best deal too. While that is for cash and not SNAP, it is no different for people who use SNAP.

By moving to an all or part commodity system, that benefit of $300.00 is not the best buy in food. You get LESS actual groceries.

The majority of people in the US who use SNAP benefits are also working, some work a full 40 hour week! Another group that use SNAP are members of our military and their families. Both of these groups of people have a true NEED and are not scamming the system. If you look at the actual numbers when it comes to people who use the system to scam it, they are a very small cross section. Making the proposed changes to SNAP only will affect those who need it the most.
