When it comes to Facebook and private security, it seems that scandals are just getting added.
The latest was discovered by the KrebsOnSecurity security site, which has alerted millions of Facebook user passwords that are exposed to more than 20,000 Facebook workers, writes USA Today.
The report's author, Brian Krebs, says that for Facebook's knowledge these data have never been abused by any of its workers. Facebook later publicly admitted, in a blog post posted by Security and Privacy Engineering Vice President Pedro Canahuati.
"We have arranged these issues and as a precaution, we will notify all of the passwords we have found are saved in this way," he wrote. The case was first discovered in January.
"Clearly, these passwords were not visible to anyone outside of Facebook and we have not found any evidence so far that someone abuses inside or has access to them," Canahuati continued. "We appreciate that we will announce hundreds of millions of Facebook Lite users, tens of millions of other Facebook users, and tens of thousands of Instagram users."
Facebook has been a magnet for scandalous news in recent years, sending away many people from using this app and putting Mark Zuckerberg on the hot seat.
While Facebook continues to insist that none of the passwords is exposed to the general public, users continue to be concerned about their identity.
It is recommended that users choose strong and complex passwords that are not repeated and enable two-factor authentication
