What is Flote?

in #socialmedia4 years ago

Why Flote? Have you ever worried that big tech social platforms (or even governments) may censor your voice or your work because it’s “controversial”? Yes? Then you want a presence on Flote.

The winds are shifting, and Flote is charting a new course. With a commitment to decentralizing user data and integrating innovative technologies, we are moving towards offering users the ability to share information and ensure that it is always available for those who would benefit from it.

“At 8 am local time on April 29th, Wikipedia went dark for everyone in Turkey. According to the independent watchdog group Turkey Blocks, the Turkish government has issued a court order that permanently restricts access to the online encyclopedia.”

The Library of Alexandria Goes Digital.

The age of purging intellectuals, burning libraries, and now even the dreaded 404 error message is nearing an end. Flote is ushering in a new era, where we facilitate the storage and distribution of vital information (and yes, some cat photos too!) across secure peer-to-peer networks. Creating a Flote account means your content will live all over the world for as long as personal computers exist.

Flote began as a response to the censorship and privacy violations of the dominating big tech social media giants. Flote is an alternative platform for individuals who are committed to freedom of expression and freedom of information. Engaged thinkers make up the Flote community. They value information and active participation in thoughtful discourse. Our job as a platform is to ensure that essential content like yours can always be found by those who are most likely to engage with it. Our job is to invite users to explore in an environment where ideas can be discussed whether new or old, popular or edgy.

FLOTE - It has great minimalist design and the founders are really nice people who post, interact, and clearly have their hearts in the right place. It lacks users and needs development, but it's cool, it works surprisingly well, and I like it. One day it may take off, and I hope it does and it replaces Facebook.
