RE: Most No-Contact Parents Are Scourge

in #society2 months ago (edited)

Antisocialist? I have a question about this grant program. I looked at the application, and I noticed that it asks me what my real name is, which is understandable inasmuch as they would have to know whom they could be giving their money to. However, my question is, would they publish the real names of everyone whom they award grants to? I'm apprehensive about putting my real name out there on the Internet.

Sort:

I'd give them a pseudonym, with the clear understanding that it was a pseudonym.
I doubt that anarchists would put names out, especially real ones, in that they are historically persecuted.

Perhaps you can contact them directly?
I saw it in an email, and have no contact with them outside of that.

Antisocialist? I went ahead and contacted the IAS directly via e-mail, and they told me that I can use a pseudonym on their application. Of course, if they pay a grantee by check, then they would need their real name; and they also told me that they do not disseminate a grantee's real name to the public unless that grantee gives them permission to do so.

I tried to see how such grants would apply to the kind of writing I do. I determined that probably this grant program would be ideal if I wished to go down the route of self-publication with a science-fiction novel of mine that I had copyrighted back in 2022. The only thing is, is that I'd probably not be considering that route until next year, because I'm considering submitting a copy of my manuscript to Baen Books and possibly to other traditional publishing houses in their near future. I found out that if I go down the route of self-publication, copies of my book, if published, would not be distributed to libraries; whereas if a traditional publishing house put my novel into print, they would ensure that copies of my book got placed in libraries across the United States and possibly the world.

My science-fiction novel is very controversial in nature. If you ever saw that movie "THX 1138" by George Lucas, you'll get some idea of what kind of science fiction I write. If you've never seen that movie, then do check it out. It warns its audience of what kind of society our nation could evolve into if our basic freedoms are eliminated. Robert Duvall and Donald Pleasance were both in that movie. It's sad to think that neither of them are with us anymore. They were exceptional actors.

I'm glad that you did tell me about this grant program, because if I don't succeed in convincing a traditional publishing house to accept my novel for publication, then at least I know that I have other options available to me should I decide to pursue self-publication. I'd also have to find a self-publishing house that doesn't charge me an arm and a leg inasmuch as the largest grant amount available from the IAS would be $1,500. Some of these self-publishing houses charge as much as $10,000 to publish an author's book. I'd have to find out all the particulars and expenses involved in self-publication, because the IAS would want that information on their application; but that's perfectly fine, because I can understand that the IAS would want to know how their grant money is being spent.

I'm pretty sure you can get into amazon ebooks pretty cheap, and they would be in the largest bookselller's shelf.
Maybe this is a way to self publish a little cheaper?

I'm glad to hear the IAS say those things, it gives me more faith in the crowd.

I'm glad that you mentioned that, because the IAS indicated that it is easier for applicants to get smaller grants from them than it is to get larger ones from them.

Oops. Antisocialist? I corrected a spelling error on the comment of mine way at the bottom of this thread, and it looks like it inadvertently kicked out your thumbs-up vote and Yayogerardo's thumbs-up vote. I'm sorry about that. I didn't know that it would do that. I'll be a little more careful the next time.

It's probably a ui error, and not a blockchain error.
It's just showing that, but that is not the reality.

Now it's showing the original version of that post of mine and then the corrected version of it down below it. I guess I can't complain. LOL.

If they allow pseudoynms on their applications, then I'm thinking that they must pay the writers they award grants to either through Paypal, cryptocurrency, or something similar. I'll go ahead and e-mail them to find out what their exact policy is pertaining to their applications.
