Have you ever hear about Johannes Vermeer's The Girl with The Pearl Earring? Otherwise known as The "Mona Lisa of the North" β one of the most famous and mysterious marvels of the art world?
Probably you may have heared or watched the same name movie with Scarlet Johanson, which is Tracy Chevalier's (writer) version of the story behind the painting, in which the girl is a servant named Griet, who has an aesthetic meeting of the minds with her master (Vermeer) and sits for the painting wearing his wealthy wife's jewels in her ear.
But in reality, very little is known about the painter and even less about his subject. Who was she? What was she thinking? What was her relationship with Vermeer? The mystery is part of its popularity.
There are countless photographs imitating the subject of the painting. I attach my two favorites !
I know the movie with the pearl necklace ;p
