Have you seen a #Cicada before? I've grown up hearing them all my life, but hadn&#039

Have you seen a #Cicada before? I've grown up hearing them all my life, but hadn't actually seen one until I was in my thirties. As a kid when they were making their call, which is more like a vibration, I asked my mother what that noise was. She told me it was the electricity going through the wires.

I'm not sure why she told us that, but it wasn't the first time as a kid we were given the wrong information. These guys are a type of #locust that live as larvae underground in the root systems of trees. Every seven years they pop out of the ground to molt, becoming what you see here. I have a shot of one coming out of its skin, but can't find it, so will have to share it later.

Cicadas are divided into two main categories:

Annual cicadas, whose lifecycle takes two to five years, appear every year.

Periodical cicadas have lifecycles of 13 or 17 years.

Looks like you got a Annual one

I have seen the swarms!

You felines love to play with and eat them.
