Now, up to this point I've been flagging manually because his rep is already negative, but, that may change.
How do you guys feel about handling spammers like this with automated bots?
Edit: He's now threatening to start an automated flagging campaign. I will have a solution to negate any of his flagging.

As long as it isn't possible to block users or their spam notifications, I'd say that whatever method makes them less visible and less annoying is a good one. If bot flagging does the trick, then I have no problem with it.
I am new to Steemit and don't understand all this negative Steem I keep bumping into. This is disturbing even when the community tries to calm my anxiety I get a lot of information on reading comments and would love to know why it's impossible to ban spammers or block trouble makers? This abuse of language will go on forever if there's no way to stop it.
Being a decentralized blockchain, it's not possible to "ban" any individual account. I imagine they can be hard-forked off of the blockchain, but that's not something that a regular user can do to stop spam in the meantime.
There can be UI features that are added or adjusted to make it possible for a user to effectively "block" another user or adjust settings for notifications, but we just don't have that functionality right now.

I'm so glad you're here without yet speaking that language! That's so encouraging, I just followed you. Basically, you're in the future ;) but some kinks are still being worked out. Like how do you create a censorship resistant platform, and yet still be able to censor those who abuse it, and abuse the community? How do you enforce community standards, and what are those? On my trip down the Wabbity Steemit Hole to Geekdom I found out many things .
Such as what a UI is: user interface > includes features that allow the user to directly interact with a device or application. This is a good thing. The more options the better!
I sort of feel like you flagging this poster directly is a waste of your voting power (so the people you vote on, who are making good content get less reward) so in a way that provides the spam attack with some sort of achievement (weakening your vote).
So yeah using some sort of automated bot and a smaller account with high rep would likely be the easiest option. How do I feel about it? Some form of moderation is necessary because there are always going to be a few bad apples that try to spoil things for everyone else.
The threat of that sort of moderation would likely be equally as effective as the actual bot in the long run. Just knowing its there would make people think twice before spamming everyone on the site.
Well, people complain about us "whales" voting anyways, so I guess some would see that as an added benefit.
Thankfully most of the spammers have little to no SP so it doesn't take much to flag them. I'm sure I've got an account that can do the trick.

I've attempted to ignore much of what has gone on. But having been tagged in multiple posts was quite annoying. It was also attacking people who have helped me a great deal here at SteemIt.
The only reason I could see using a bot for auto flagging is if the person seems to be abusing the system and or attacking people on a constant basis (as noted here) with no sign of reform (I've seen no effort). Some people make mistakes and fix them and other make no effort to fix the problem. If a person is making no effort to fix their mistake then I see the reason people would use a bot to auto flag them.

Oh no, that's a real comment by me, no photoshop on his part but of course it provides no context, just like the rest of his posts and accusations against people. If he were spamming manually that would be one thing, but automated spamming is a whole different story and fortunately I have the ability to take care of it.
