Cuando el bebé empezó a llorar, su esposa le gritó enfurecida:
- ¡¿Qué estás esperando para ir a comprar la leche de tu hijo?!
El hombre, cansado después de una larga jornada de trabajo, se fue en pantuflas a la tienda de conveniencia más cercana arrastrando los pies.
En el camino pensó lo difícil que era tener un hijo y, sintiéndose incapaz de algún día convertirse en un buen padre, se le ocurrió la idea de escapar.
¡No! ¡Yo no voy a ser como él! -se dijo a sí mismo, recordando al padre que nunca conoció-. Daré lo mejor de mí para ser un buen padre y, si no lo logro, al menos estaré ahí para mi hijo -se convenció, mientras tomaba un galón de leche del refrigerador de la tienda.
¿Sólo esto? -le preguntó la hermosa cajera de largos cabellos negros y brillantes ojos que, peculiarmente, eran de colores distintos, el derecho negro y el izquierdo dorado-. ¿No desea algo más? ¿Libertad?
Sí -balbuceó inconscientemente, soltando un suspiro-. ¿Qué? ¡No! ¡Gracias! ¡Sí! Esto es todo, solo la leche, para mi bebé -añadió apresuradamente, confundido por lo que acaba de pasar.
Muy tarde... -susurró la cajera, sonriendo maliciosamente.
¿Cómo dice? -le preguntó, aún más consternado.
¡Muchas gracias por su compra! ¡Tenga buenas noches y regrese pronto!
Agarrando la bolsa con el galón de leche que le extendía la cajera, se encaminó a la salida de la tienda sin quitarle los ojos de encima hasta que las puertas eléctricas se abrieron para darle paso y, al salir, cuando miró al frente se encontró con una basta pradera con decenas de hombre deambulando y llamando a gritos a sus esposas e hijos. Aterrado, dio media vuelta para regresar, pero descubrió que la tienda había desaparecido y que estaba atrapado en aquel misterioso lugar.
Desde entonces, pasa todo su tiempo buscando una forma volver a casa; donde su esposa sigue esperando que llegue con la leche.
