Vivian Malone Jones fue la primera persona (mujer) afroamericana en graduarse en la Universidad de Alabama en Estados Unidos, obtuvo un grado en Negocios en el año de 1965. Fue una de los dos primeros afroamericanos que se inscribieron en el año de 1963, el otro fue James Hood pero éste no pudo terminar los estudios debido a las presiones segregacionistas a las que fueron sometidos. La imagen fue tomada cuando existía una protesta en esa Alma Mater para evitar que se iniciaran las clases con la presencia de estos dos estudiantes en las aulas.
Nota curiosa: La situación presentada fue tan importante para el movimiento de los Derechos Civiles que esta imagen y otras fueron tomadas para replicarlas en una escena de la película del año de 1994, Forrest Gump.
Vivian Malone Jones was the first African-American person (woman) to graduate from the University of Alabama in the United States, earned a degree in Business in 1965. He was one of the first two African Americans who enrolled in the year 1963, the another was James Hood but he could not finish his studies due to the segregationist pressures to which they were subjected. The image was taken when there was a protest in that Alma Mater to prevent classes from starting with the presence of these two students in the classrooms.
Curious note: The situation presented was so important for the Civil Rights movement that this image and others were taken to replicate them in a scene from the 1994 film of the year, Forrest Gump.
