Kokoriko is my favorite Chicken restaurant in the world! It is a pretty large chain in Colombia, with around 10 locations in Medellín, and multiple locations in quite a few cities.
UNfortunatly, for me, no-one has exported this little gem anywhere else. The last time I had kokoriko was 18 years ago while visiting Bogotá. It left such an impression on me that it is the first thing I think of when someone mentions Colombia.
Kokoriko es mi restaurante de pollo favorito en el mundo! Es una cadena bastante grande en Colombia, con alrededor de 10 ubicaciones en Medellín, y múltiples ubicaciones en bastantes ciudades.
Desgraciadamente, para mí, nadie ha exportado esta pequeña joya a otro lugar. La última vez que tuve kokoriko fue hace 18 años mientras visitaba Bogotá. Me dejó tan impresionado que es lo primero que pienso cuando alguien menciona a Colombia.
Kokoriko de Medellín
Honestly, I'm not sure when of the Kokoriko this one is in Medellín. (Leave a comment if you know). But it was in kind of a strange triangular building with limited parking, which is normal in any downtown area.
The staff was friendly, and helped us decide on what to order, as apparently, my suggestion of "a boatload of chicken" was not clear enough.
Honestamente, no estoy seguro de cuándo el Kokoriko es este en Medellín. (Deja un comentario si lo sabes). Pero era una especie de edificio triangular extraño con estacionamiento limitado, lo cual es normal en cualquier área del centro de la ciudad.
El personal fue amable y nos ayudó a decidir qué pedir, ya que aparentemente mi sugerencia de "un bote de pollo" no era lo suficientemente clara.
Now, if you remember nothing else from this post, remember this, Go to Kokoriko and order the 'Kokoriko Asado.' They have something else there that looks like nice fried Chicken, and perhaps it is even great, but the Asado is what changed my life.
Ahora, si no recuerda nada más de esta publicación, recuerde esto, vaya a Kokoriko y pida el 'Kokoriko Asado'. Tienen algo más que parece un buen pollo frito, y tal vez incluso es genial, pero el Asado es lo que cambió mi vida.

The Asado is slow roasted or brosted, but they marinate right down to the very bones of the chicken. See the yellow row of chicken cooking? This is the special recipe that provides the magical flavor:

I don't know how much chicken we ordered, but it was a bunch! I ate 3/4 of a chicken by myself. I only wish I had brought a container so I could have taken an order back with me to eat in the evening.
When you look at your napkin and silverware, you will also see a little plastic bag. This contains a pair of clear gloves you can put on to avoid getting any of the juices on your hands. If you are going to pick up you Chicken to eat it, I suggest you take advantage of these gloves!
No sé cuánto pollo pedimos, ¡pero era un montón! Comí 3/4 de pollo solo. Solo desearía haber traído un contenedor para que pudiera haber hecho un pedido conmigo para comer en la noche.
Cuando mires la servilleta y los cubiertos, también verás una pequeña bolsa de plástico. Este contiene un par de guantes transparentes que puedes poner para evitar que te salgan jugos en las manos. Si vas a recoger tu pollo para comerlo, te sugiero que aproveches estos guantes.
The 'Asado' recipe is so good, and so unique, that I don't think I will ever be able to try their other style of Chicken. (If you have tried it, let me know your thoughts in the comments below).
La receta de 'Asado' es tan buena, y tan única, que no creo que alguna vez pueda probar su otro estilo de pollo. (Si lo ha intentado, hágame saber sus pensamientos en los comentarios a continuación).
Overall thoughts on the visit to Kokoriko
Hype is a strange thing, and I was worried that my visit would not live up to my fond memories. I had built up Kokoriko in my head over the last 18 years since my last visit. Would it still be this good? Well, the answer was yes! I think this Chicken recipe could hold its own against any competition anywhere, with the possible exception of Jamaican Jerk chicken! Yum.
If you are planning a trip to Colombia anytime soon, you simply have to find the nearest Kokoriko and try the "Asado" chicken!
"Hype" es algo extraño, y estaba preocupado de que mi visita no estuviera a la altura de mis buenos recuerdos. Había acumulado Kokoriko en mi cabeza durante los últimos 18 años desde mi última visita. ¿Todavía sería tan bueno? Bueno, la respuesta fue sí! Creo que esta receta de Pollo podría defenderse contra cualquier competencia en cualquier lugar, con la posible excepción del pollo jamaiquino Jerk! Yum!
Si está planeando un viaje a Colombia pronto, simplemente tiene que encontrar el Kokoriko más cercano y probar el pollo 'Asado'.
