Cada 16 de Octubre es celebrado el Día Internacional de la Anestesiología. Este día es propicio para conmemorar la gran labor realizada por los facultativos la cual es muy importante y vital dentro de la medicina.

El origen del día se remonta al año 1.846 cuando fue descubierta la anestesia gracias al doctor William Thomas Green Morton. Su hallazgo fue un gran avance en la medicina ya que a partir de ese momento liberaría a la humanidad del sufrimiento quirúrgico.
La anestesiología se define como la rama de la medicina que estudia la dedicación y cuidados de los pacientes durante una intervención quirúrgica. El nombre completo de esta especialidad es el de Anestesiología y Reanimación.
La anestesia es un procedimiento médico donde gracias a los fármacos empleados, se produce una ausencia temporal en la sensibilidad en el lugar del cuerpo donde ha sido puesta, por ello al momento de hacer procedimientos quirúrgicos sentimos muy poco dolor, inclusive llegamos a dormirnos completamente durante una operación.
