¡Hi Hive! Me presento: mi nombre es Yolena y este… es un pedacito de mi historia

¡Hi Hive! Mi nombre es Yolena Carolina. Aunque, realmente, todos lo acortan a “Yole”. Nací en 1981 en Barquisimeto, Venezuela. Tengo 41 y contando… Siempre he pensado que debemos estar orgullosos de cada año vivido y cumplido.

Soy la mayor de tres hermanos. Mi hermano Tulio que es menor por 4 años, y mi hermana Luz (a la que le decimos beba), que tiene 12 años menos que yo.

De padres divorciados, crecí solo con mi mamá y mis hermanos, pero siempre en el entorno de mi familia materna: tíos, primos y mi abuela Elena, una mujer que tuvo una fuerza inquebrantable.

Yolanda, mi madre, fue un ejemplo vivo de todo lo correcto, de la honestidad en su trabajo, de la defensa de los derechos de las personas, de la integridad y de una enorme espiritualidad. Ya no está en este plano, pero estoy más que segura que está en esferas superiores. La amo y le agradezco todo lo que soy.

Mi madre supo inculcarme el amor por la Literatura y por el idioma. Ella era profesora de Castellano y Literatura, pero más que eso, ella amaba las letras. Recuerdo haber crecido entre miles de libros, con una biblioteca inmensa en casa. Recuerdo que, con muy corta edad, mi madre me entregaba libros y yo los devoraba. ¡Oh! Yo adoraba (y sigo adorando) "Humor y Amor" de Aquiles Nazoa o las "Novelas Ejemplares" del incomparable Cervantes.

Mi madre nos procuró la mejor educación, y nosotros, sus hijos, supimos responder con entrega al estudio. Me gradué de Ingeniero Civil en el año 2007, de la Universidad Centroccidental Lisandro Alvarado UCLA. Así que, la ingeniería civil es una de mis grandes pasiones, sobre todo el área hidráulica.

Tuve la gran oportunidad de tener mi primera experiencia profesional antes de recibir el título, pertenecí a la hidrológica del estado y tuve la dirección de un excelente profesor. Así que, cuando salí al ruedo llevaba a cuestas un buen conocimiento como proyectista.

Experiencia que me valió para ingresar como calculista en la Gerencia de Proyectos de una importante institución pública de vivienda a nivel regional. Allí fueron inmensas las enseñanzas, grandes proyectos y grandes profesionales como compañeros de trabajo. Allí también me desempeñé como supervisor de obras.

Durante ese tiempo surgió en mí otra pasión, el Derecho. Así que, mientras trabajaba de 8am a 5pm como Ingeniero Civil, estudié en las noches Derecho en mi segunda alma mater, la Universidad Fermín Toro. Me gradué de abogado en el 2016.

Después de 5 años trabajando en el ente público, decidí que era hora de nuevas experiencias. Me he desempeñado en libre ejercicio y tuve trabajos enriquecedores, como supervisor de obras en transnacionales o como líder de proyecto civil en consultoras de la petrolera venezolana.

Mi tercera pasión es impartir clases en la Universidad. Me gusta poder poner un grano de arena a las nuevas generaciones de ingenieros.

Además de la lectura de obras literarias, uno de mis grandes hobbies es la cocina. Adoro cocinar y crear mis propias recetas, dulces y saladas. Y, sobre todo, adoro hacer pan. Mezclar levadura, harina, agua, sal y azúcar, y observar como toma forma en mis manos, como leuda cada pieza y como se doran en el horno, simplemente, me encanta.

En todos mis aciertos y desaciertos me acompaña un gran amigo y maestro, mi gato Merlín. Un ser superior que me ha enseñado, a lo largo de 9 años, la importancia de disfrutar el aquí y el ahora, y que el después… cuando llegue el después veremos qué hacemos con él, pero no puede mortificar nuestro presente.

Actualmente, imparto clases en la universidad, me dedico a la revisión de proyectos civiles y ejerzo, de vez en cuando, el Derecho. También descubrí que me gusta escribir artículos para la web. Si lo hago bien o mal, no sé, ustedes serán los jueces. Pero estoy aprendiendo poco a poco y es otra actividad en la que me ocupo.

Por esto, cuando mi prima Luge @LuzVicente me comentó sobre Hive, dije !me gusta! Me habló sobre la clase Hive desde cero con @Soy-laloreto y… ¡aquí estoy! aprendiendo mucho, noche tras noche y junto a todos ustedes. Realmente, es una comunidad valiosísima en la que espero poder crecer y hacer amigos.

Hi Hive! My name is Yolena Carolina. Although, really, everyone shortens it to "Yole". I was born in 1981 in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. I am 41 and counting... I have always thought that we should be proud of every year lived and accomplished.

I am the oldest of three siblings. My brother Tulio who is younger by 4 years, and my sister Luz (we call her beba), who is 12 years younger than me.

With divorced parents, I grew up alone with my mother and siblings, but always in the environment of my maternal family: uncles, cousins and my grandmother Elena, a woman who had an unbreakable strength.

Yolanda, my mother, was a living example of all that is right, of honesty in her work, of defending people's rights, of integrity and of enormous spirituality. She is no longer on this plane, but I am more than sure she is in higher spheres. I love her and thank her for all that I am.

My mother knew how to instill in me a love for literature and language. She was a Spanish and Literature teacher, but more than that, she loved literature. I remember growing up among thousands of books, with a huge library at home. I remember that, at a very young age, my mother gave me books and I devoured them. Oh! I adored (and still adore) "Humor y Amor" by Aquiles Nazoa or the "Novelas Ejemplares" by the incomparable Cervantes.

My mother gave us the best education, and we, her children, knew how to respond with dedication to study. I graduated as a Civil Engineer in 2007, from the Universidad Centroccidental Lisandro Alvarado UCLA. So, civil engineering is one of my great passions, especially the hydraulic area.

I had the great opportunity to have my first professional experience before receiving my degree, I belonged to the state hydrological and I had the guidance of an excellent professor. So, when I went out to the arena, I had a good knowledge as a designer on my shoulders.

This experience allowed me to enter as a calculator in the Project Management of an important public housing institution at a regional level. There, I learned a lot, had great projects and great professionals as co-workers. There I also worked as a construction supervisor.

During that time another passion emerged in me, Law. So, while working from 8am to 5pm as a Civil Engineer, I studied law in the evenings at my second alma mater, Fermín Toro University. I graduated as a lawyer in 2016.

After 5 years working in the public entity, I decided it was time for new experiences. I have worked in free practice and had enriching jobs, as a works supervisor in transnationals or as a civil project leader in Venezuelan oil consulting firms.

My third passion is teaching at the University. I like to be able to give a grain of sand to the new generations of engineers.

Besides reading literary works, one of my great hobbies is cooking. I love cooking and creating my own recipes, sweet and savory. And, above all, I love making bread. Mixing yeast, flour, water, salt and sugar, and watching how it takes shape in my hands, how each piece leavens and how it browns in the oven, I simply love it.

In all my successes and failures, I am accompanied by a great friend and teacher, my cat Merlin. A superior being who has taught me, over 9 years, the importance of enjoying the here and now, and that later... when the later comes we will see what we do with it, but it cannot mortify our present.

Currently, I teach at the university, I review civil projects and I practice law from time to time. I also discovered that I enjoy writing articles for the web. Whether I do it right or wrong, I don't know, you will be the judges. But I'm learning little by little and it's another activity I'm busy with.

So when my cousin Luge @LuzVicente told me about Hive, I said "I like it! She told me about the Hive class from scratch with @Soy-laloreto and... here I am! learning a lot, night after night and together with all of you. It's a really valuable community where I hope to grow and make friends.
