Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenge with DRAGONS

In this week's Battle Challenge from @splinterlands we don't have just one particular Monster featured. As this week the theme is Dragons.

The card I want to highlight in this blog post for my weekly battle challenge participation, is Camila Sungazer. Because that's the summoner I used to create my team for the battle I'm sharing this week. Camila Sungazer is a Legendary Dragon Summoner with a 3 Mana Cost from the Untamed set. I have her at level 2 which looks like this.

Because she's a Summoner, she doesn't gain any additional stats at higher level but instead increases the level of the Monsters you can bring into the battle.

The battle I'm sharing this week is one where we both played using Dragon Splinter Summoners. I chose Camila Sungazer and my opponent used Brighton Bloom. Here's a screenshot of the lineup.

In this battle almost all Elements could be used, except for Fire. The battle had a 38 Mana Cap and these two rulesets:

  • Super Sneak: All Melee attack Monsters have the Sneak ability.
  • Earthquake: Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round.

Team Setup

Almost all Elements were available, except for Fire. One of the rules was Earthquake, so I wanted to have a good amount of Monsters with the Flying ability. The Dragon Splinter has a lot of monsters with the ability, so it was my preferred choice. Due to the Super Sneak ruleset I decided to go with Camila Sungazer to reduce my opponents Melee Attack by 1.

I suspected that my opponent could bring a mix to Melee and Magic Attack Monsters, to benefit from the Super Sneak but also have damage against my frontline. So I chose the Robo-Dragon Knight in the first position. It has Void, to tank some Magic Attacks, its Immunity helps it negate the first damage it takes and with the Armor it could withstand a few Melee or Ranged hits as well as some damage from the Earthquake ruleset.

I didn't go for Brighton Bloom, so I needed some Monsters with the Flying ability. I chose Earth as my secondary element so I could bring Screeching Vulture alongside the Dragon Jumper. Both Melee Attack Monsters with Flying. Then I finished my lineup with the Black Dragon, it also have Flying and with Life Leech could build up its health a bit. I had Djinn Chwala in the back so that the Thorns ability could damage any Melee Attack Monster that my opponent brought.

Fungus Fiend was added for style points because I used all my Mana, but still had one open spot for a Monster. Perfect to bring the 0 Mana Cost Fungus Fiend.

Strategy Successful?

It sure was! My opponent indeed brought a mix of Melee and Magic Attack Monsters. They did all get the Flying ability from Brighton Bloom. Which I considered using, but mine is only level 2 and as a Rare Summoner it means lower levels for my Monsters.

My Melee Attack Monsters cleared out the enemies backline quickly. Earthquake killed my Fungus Fiend, but apart from that it didn't hurt my Robo-Dragon Knight and Djinn Chwala much at all. Her Thorns helped lower Silent Sha-Vi's life so once it was in the first position it needed one more hit. Then I ended up with almost my whole team still alive, so when my opponent only had Cthulhu left it stood no chance against me. Especially as it dealt reduced damage to my Robo-Dragon Knight due to Void.

Do I like Dragons?

Absolutely! Just generally speaking I already like dragons a lot. When I started my Splinterlands journey and saw the dragons I was definitely interested in them. And when playing a Dragon Summoner you can choose a secondary Element to use Monsters from that one!! Absolutely awesome, opens up quite some additional team comps.

Conclusion

I made a great prediction that my opponent would have a mix of Melee and Magic Attack Monsters and had a proper team build to counter that, while also having sufficient damage to quickly kill my opponents Monsters. The Earthquake ruleset posed no problem to my Monsters without the Flying ability, except for the Fungus Fiend but that one was just there for style points anyway.

Thanks for reading my weekly battle challenge.
