Soulkeep... More like "Soulkeeping-us-waiting", amirite!!! O' SK... WE MISS YOU!

Good morning Splinterfriends and Soulkeepers!

Today I wanted to write up a quick bit about Soulkeep - the Tower Defense Game with a lot of promise and a community begging to play... what more could you want for a game??

For those of you who don't know, Soulkeep was originally going to be an offshoot of Splinterlands, where you have this nifty Tower Defense style game with Tournaments and things... and you could stake cards on Towers for more buffs - thank God that didn't happen because the Black Hole that is Land is vacuuming up Cards like CL barely made a dent...

There was a pre-sale and staking rewards and a whole lot more... but then... along came a Bear...

Yup... that's right... the Bear Market came along, Crypto tanked and Soulkeep fell off the radar... and things that should not have been forgotten were... Soulkeep became Legend... Legend became Myth and for two and a half thousand yea...

Ok... maybe not that long... but seriously... I bet like 99% of us didn't even know SK was being developed until it "launched" on Jun 24th of 2024... hell I bet many didn't even know about it until Aug of '24 or later lol

However, if truth be told - the game itself is fun! Is it perfect? Nope - not even close!

That's ok though - no one expects games to be perfect on launch! Or re-launch... or... Re-re-re-reset-re-launch...

It was a 'mostly' working product, it was fun to play, there were a lot of people who tried it out at first... but due to rampant gameplay issues (a number of which were addressed), terrible customer service, a few bad actors in the community... there were several mass exoduses from the game...

A core group of us stuck with it though and still chat about it... in the Soulkeep Discord channel it has basically devolved into a bunch of GIFs about "Where is everyone" and stuff...

Ahh... the good ol' days...

The gameplay itself needed polish but... wait... what?? No... not Polish... polish... you know... "to buff or wipe something and make shiny"... cholerny język angielski...

Anyways... The games were fun but the community continually pointed out things that we needed...

Freeplay - yeah... kind of a big one right? If you had already played your "Gateway Battles" for that League... and didn't want to spend more tickets for a Tournament... COME BACK TOMORROW!!!! Oof.

Basic info for cards - also important, you think? There wasn't anywhere in Soulkeep you could go to see your Card Level, Stats and Energy... without loading into a "Gateway" (hope you left one open) checking the Energy available... and then Retreating...

I've played better one-dev, independent Steam launches than that lol... seriously.

But here we are... about a month later, after the second halt of Tournaments and the associated Rewards... the core group of SK players just hanging out in Limbo... waiting for some "closed door talks" to resolve between DC, SPL and whomever...

We can't play Tournaments... but can play Gateways... if we have them... which leads me to ask...

WHY THE FUCK CAN'T WE PLAY TOURNAMENTS BUT SIMPLY NOT GET REWARDED

That way, we could play our ONE, SINGULAR, Free Attempt per day to use our Card/NFTs that some people have paid $$$$$ for... have some fun and continue - without need for SPS Tokens as compensation...

I mean why did we go the "Fuck all y'all!!! No Tournaments for you!!" route???

Whatever

At the end of the day, Soulkeep was fun - I like Tower Defense games! It needed better Single Player PvE storyline, not just Gateway Battles (that you can't replay)...

It needed more Waves...

It needed various things...

But what it had... was a solid group of core players and it lost the fringe players due to the above issues... and extreme lack of customer service on Double Coconuts end.

The product is functional... the product can be refined... the product has promise... and most importantly the product has a fan base...

I think Soulkeep can succeed and I also think that "umbrellas" like @arcadecolony would make a great home for it...

It would make another good use of $Colony and keep SK in the "family"...

My only hope is that something is worked out but I have faith in the Splinterlands Team - they've done amazing things and have shown tenacity throughout the Bear Market!!

Celene and I shall wait and see what the future holds for Soulkeep - I hope you'll wait with us!

It brings the #play2earn feature to the forefront of development as well as many opportunities for people to earn rewards - whether Player or Investor!!

I totally get why you're frustrated with Soulkeep's development. It seems like a promising game, but the issues and lack of communication have been tough. I'm rooting for the team to figure it out and bring it back stronger.
