Weekly Battle Challenge : Kulu Swimhunter

Introduction


Hello guys welcome to my blog. This week's battle challenge theme is Kulu Swimhunter. Kulu Swimhunter card is available in starter card set to everyone for free of cost. It's a common water unit card and it does not have any ability. It has 4 mana cost and at level 1 it has 2 archery damage, 4 health and 2 speed. Personally I do not use this card often but for the sake of the challenge I tried it in couple of battles. To me it felt like a okay-ish card.


Lore

Kulu Swimhunters are members of a race of squid-like creatures that hunt in packs. They use their multiple tentacles to wield all manner of projectiles, to include spears, coral, and even fish. They are very aggressive and are known to traverse oceans, lakes, and rivers, killing for sport and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. They do not value gold or glory and will ally themselves with whoever promises the greatest opportunity to hunt and kill.


Anyways Let's get into the battle. Here's the line up :

  • Holy Protection - All Monsters have the Divine Shield ability.

  • Mana Cap - 26

  • Splinters Allowed - Fire, Earth (leaf icon), Death (Skull icon), Water


Thought process


Opponent history suggested he likes to Obsidian(earth) a lot. So I thought of countering it with Bortus(water) which removes 1 magic damage from all opponent monsters though it magic damage can not be zero. As opponent was likely to use magic so I went with Void tank which was Baakjira here. I used Venari wavesmith for armor against Mustang. Deeplurker to get rid low health enemy. Kulu Swimhunter and Xenith Archer were my main damage.

  • Baakjira -
    My main tank in this battle is Baakjira. It's a legendary card. As you can see for 6 mana it is one of the best high HP tank available in the game. It has void and slow ability at level 1. This card counters Magic damage with ease because of void(reduces 1 magic damage). It does not have any damage of itself tho. Slow ability reduces opponents speed by 1. In this you will see insane synergy of baakjira and bortus to nullify magic damage.

  • Venari Wavesmith -
    At second position I placed Venari Wavesmith. It is a Rare card. It's protect(+2 armor for our cards) ability is one the best ability in the game. It's ability allowed our Baakjira to take one extra hit from Mustang and survive a bit longer. I placed it in second position because I wanted Deeplurker to do its opportunity damage for 1 more round. It's magic damage wasn't helpful here because of opponent's void.

  • Deeplurker -
    At Third position is Deeplurker. It's a common card. It has 6 mana cost and 3 melee damage. It has good health but speed is bit low at my level. It's main strength is it's opportunity(targets lowest health monster) ability with 3 melee damage. I used it because of Earth summoner has an annoying magic damage + healer with low health and I wanted to get rid of it fairly quickly.

  • Kulu Swimhunter -
    At fourth position is Kulu Swimhunter. It's a common card. I used because of it's 2 archery damage with good health. In first couple of round it was the only one damaging enemy mustang tho it wasn't able to do much damage because of enemy healer. I positioned it here because I didn't want it to be attacked by sneak attack monsters in the last postion and allow it to damage on enemy frontline. Archery are generally placed in because they can not attack from first position.

  • Xenith Archer-
    Last but not the least is Xenith Archer. It' a rare neutral card.
    As you can see it is low mana card so it doesn't have insane stats but it's a good card for it's mana. I knew opponent frontline would be mustang which has void so magic damage would be useless and melee monster can generally only attack from first position so archery was my only bet to damage against Mustang.

Round 1

In this round monsters got rid some of the Holy Protection. Opponent's soft tank died.


Round 2

In this round all my monsters were playing there supposed task vey well. Baakjira with armor and void took only 1 damage in this round. Also Deeplurker is killing their squishy targets with ease.


Round 3

This round nothing much happened. Enemy healer is being annoying because of this enemy front line is getting healed to full health each round. But this should change next round as Deeplurker will likely kill the healer next round.


Round 4

Okay so the Opponent's healer died. Now it should be an easy win from here on. Our Baakjira will likely get killed next round tho it did it's job very well. Archers are slowly doing there damage now.


Round 5

Baakjira died. Only Three health left on enemy tank. My monters still have good health plus divine shield from ruleset as well.


Round 6

Kulu Swimhunter killed Opponent frontline. Only One enemy monster left. Looking like a solid win.

Last enemy monster died as well. So it's a victory for us.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
Yep it did work out fine this time. Well that depends on ruleset.

Do you like the (monster)? Why or why not?
In little league, reverse speed and low mana battles I can see myself using this card. But I do not use this card much as I play in Silver 3 league. Some kind of armor penetration ability for this card for one more mana would make this card lot better
