Splinterlands - Card levels used in Bronze, Silver and Gold

in #splinterlands2 years ago

Chaos Legion is almost here, and the game is about to get turned on its head. It will be very exciting to see new strategies and decks developing. I will have my hands full collecting match statistics the coming weeks, and I will try to provide win rate statistics and deck examples asap.

The supply of cards will increase substantially, and card prices will likely shift accordingly. Thus, it might be a good time to acquire some older cards you might have wanted, or to try to find a few undervalued gems before they get recognized.

At any rate, which league you want to play in determines the card levels you need. The max level playable is common knowledge, but you don't need to play max level cards to win. The graph below shows the average level of common, rare, epic and legendary cards used in bronze, silver and gold.

It is pretty interesting to find that there is basically no difference between card levels in bronze and silver. This is also anecdotally true, I can play just fine up to silver 1 with level 1 cards if I think about what I'm doing. Card diversity is just as useful as card level. The limiting factor is collection power, not card levels.
If you want to play in gold though, you should likely acquire some leveled cards. Common cards are played more often at level 3 and above than 2 or lower, while rare, epic and legendary cards are still often played at level 1, but also at higher levels. Below are the number of cards needed for common, rare, epic and legendary cards for different levels.

Thus, an average gold team requires you to buy 5 or 14 of each common card, 1 or 5 of each rare, 1 or 2 of each epic and 1 or 2 of each legendary. You also need a summoner that can use these cards.
