Splinterlands is full of flashy cards that grab all the attention but some of the most useful ones hide in plain sight. The game isn’t always about who has the biggest damage or tankiest health sometimes it’s about those cards that gives others the opportunity to shine. That’s where units like Moxian Rebel comes in and they can turn an average lineup into something strong and unexpected.
Moxian Rebel is one of those types of cards that at first glance, it doesn’t look like a powerhouse but in the right setup it creates damage where there normally wouldn’t be any. I recently realized I could do this and this has been made possible and strong because of Marlai Singariel.
Let's talk about… Moxian Rebel

The wizard Sharielle Larimer and her husband owned a humble magic shop in Mox City's bustling trade district. But when the Chaos Empire took the city, they also took her husband. He was conscripted into the legions of Chaos and sent away. They never even told her where.
When the sun rises, she opens her shop and goes through the motions. And when the sun goes down, she dons her mask of red and unleashes her wrath on the legionnaires and loyalists of Mox City.

The buy price of $70.546 for max level is just too expensive for what this unit offers. You only really gain extra damage at max level but the value isn’t worth the steep cost. A level 1 copy for $0.794 is way better since you already unlock Weapons Training which is the main reason to use this card anyway.
The rental price of 295 DEC per day for max level is way overpriced for me. Like, the buy price doesn’t justify the small increase in damage compared to lower levels. Renting at 1.421 DEC per day for level 1 is far more reasonable and gives you the ability you need already. An extra 293.579 DEC per day isn't justified for the extra +1 magic attack and Camouflage ability.
Rule Sets:

 All units with magic and ranged attacks have Snipe (magic and ranged attacks target the first non-melee enemy unit behind the first position). Camouflage keeps it safe while enemies waste shots on others. Since the other two units benefitting from Weapons Training gets magic attack, Target Practice rule set also works for them. |
 All Units have 2 Armor in addition to their normal Armor stat. This rule set is great for Moxian Rebel because its magic attack and the magic attack granted through Weapons Training completely ignore armor. While other units may struggle to break through the bonus armor, Moxian Rebel ensures consistent damage output every round. This makes him especially valuable when paired with Marlai Singariel improving this damage more. |
 Units with Melee attack may not be used in battles. Since non-attacking units are allowed in this rule set, Moxian Rebel remains a perfect fit for the lineup. Moxian Rebel has magic attack and Weapons Training still that can give non-attacking units magic attack that bypasses that limitation. |
| Avoid using it in... |
 Units lose all abilities. In this ruleset, all abilities are stripped away and Moxian Rebel loses the main reason why you add him to the lineup. Without that ability, his value drops drastically because he can no longer add value to non-attacking allies. What remains is just his raw stats, which aren’t enough to justify his slot compared to other better units. |
 All units have Magic Reflect (returns 50% of magic damage to attacker, rounded up). This is one of the hardest matchups for Moxian Rebel because all his damage comes from magic, and the same applies to any allies benefitting from Weapons Training. Every attack reflects damage back to your team making him a liability instead of helping your team. In longer fights, this reflected damage can chip down his entire lineup slowly but surely. |
 All units with magic and ranged attacks have Scattershot (magic and ranged attacks target a random enemy unit). Normally, Camouflage protects Moxian Rebel from being targeted but Aimless removes that advantage by making enemy attacks completely random. This makes him far more vulnerable than usual since he can be damaged in the battle since Camouflage only protects him from attacks targetting him and not random attacks. Losing that layer of safety may not be a lot because Weapons Training still gives your non-attacking units damage even if he dies but it still affects your overall damage since one of your units die fast. |

Battle Strat: I checked my previous battle and saw an enemy player using Marlai Singariel with Daarg Deadblast. Since Daarg Deadblast is quite expensive, I chose a more affordable build that gives as much power with the same idea. This lineup gives you a very beefy frontline because both Ulundin Overseer and Daigendark Surveyor, have good health and can benefit from Moxian Rebel's Weapons Training. This build is also magic heavy and fixes the problem I am having with Water Element recently which is low magic damage at lower levels. One thing that is a problem in this lineup, if I am going to be honest, is Shock Trooper's Electrified ability which kills Moxian Rebel early. So, either spend more and rent Daarg Deadblast than Moxian Rebel or just change Shock Trooper if you have a different option.
Battle Summary: This build is very strong and that can be seen in this battle. Even though my enemy have a strong 10 health tank, that tank falls down in less than 1 round due to the damage this build can do. If your enemies would not have any counter like having units with Void or Silence, this affordable lineup is enough to carry you probably up to low Diamond league. This battle is an absolute massacre and I won with ease without sacrificing any units except Moxian Rebel.
