Sorrow Harvester is my MVP in Frontier Mode

Ever get that one card that looks weak at first glance but ends up making your lineup shine? That’s what Sorrow Harvester feels like in many battles. It doesn’t smash enemies with high attack or crazy abilities but once you learn the true value of its Weaken ability, the whole enemy team just seems easier to bring down. Sometimes it’s the simple abilities that make the biggest swing.

Of course it’s not perfect and there are plenty of rule sets where Sorrow Harvester struggles. With only a decent health and a very slow speed, you’ll often feel like it’s too fragile or too weak to do much on its own. Still, when placed in the right team it can pull its weight and even surprise you with how amazing of a card it is.

Let's talk about… Sorrow Harvester

────────────────────────

Lore:

The Deep is a vast subterranean realm that sprawls beneath the Splinterlands. Shrouded in mystery and largely unmapped, its labyrinth of tunnels and caverns is believed to stretch beneath even the Colossus Ocean and the distant waters of the Splinter Sea and Primordic Seas.
Within the Deep lies Shadowcomb, a sprawl of cathedral-like chambers and winding passageways beneath the Jagtooth Mountains and Broken Lands. In its enormous caverns, some stretching over twenty kilometers, subterranean forests thrive using chemosynthesis, bathed in the twilight glow of bioluminescent algae and fungi.

Buy and Rent:

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

At $3 for a max level 3 card the buy price is actually pretty fair considering it’s a foundation epic card. Most foundation cards don’t reach the same high levels as regular ones so the cost being lower makes sense. I’d say it’s cheap and a safe pickup if you want a support option without spending much. It's also a good unit to add if you're planning to play Modern Ranked Format or other modes.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

No Rental Available

Foundation cards cannot be rented. You can buy them or get them through playing Frontier Mode through daily rewards or ranked up rewards but that's it. Unlike other generations like Rebellion or Chaos Legion or the previous ones, there is no option to rent Foundation cards. There is an option to transfer these cards though so if you have a close personal friend or somebody you trust, you can do an offline contract of some sort where you send them DEC or SPS regularly and they give you the card and once your contract is over, you hand the card back to them.

Rule Sets:

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Use it in...

The initial Health of all Units is equal to that of the Units on either team with the highest base Health.
With Equalizer Sorrow Harvester’s low health doesn’t matter and it gets tankier while still applying Weaken. While you also don't get to one-shot units with the double Weaken combo, you still have a 2 health advantage with all of your units in this rule set.

All units with magic and ranged attacks have Snipe (magic and ranged attacks target the first non-melee enemy unit behind the first position).
Since Sorrow Harvester has magic attack, it can use the Snipe from Target Practice allowing you to bypass the tank from the enemy team. Just make sure you add a non-melee unit on the 2nd position to serve as your tank for enemy Snipe units.

Units lose all abilities.
Without abilities most units lose value but Sorrow Harvester being able to keep its 2 magic damage still makes it a good pick in Frontier Mode.

Avoid using it in...

Non-flying Units take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round.
Lacking Flying ability makes it dangerous for this unit to be played in this rule set. Without Flying, Sorrow Harvester takes damage each round and dies in 3 rounds.

All Units start the battle Poisoned.
Similar to Earthquake but can be cleansed. Even though you have advantage with Weaken, if your enemies used Cleanse, they would more likely win as you get 2 damage per round from Poison while they won't.

All units have Magic Reflect (returns 50% of magic damage to attacker, rounded up).
Since Sorrow Harvester has magic attack, it gets damage returned to it whenever it attacks making this a bad rule set for Sorrow Harvester.

Battle Summary...

Battle Strat: This battle has Four's a Crowd limiting the number of units on the board. This means that the best lineup should be that all of your units can attack since you have limited unit that can be used. Double tanks aren't encouraged unless they can attack or you will get outdamaged by your enemy. Armored Up can be a problem or your savior. This adds armor to both team so use Magic attack units. Magic attack passes through armor allowing you to get the advantage of armor. Your attacks also won't get blocked by the extra armor giving you advantage over your enemy.

Battle Summary: This battle is almost a mirror match with a few differences. My enemy used two main tanks and only Sorrow Harvester as the magic attack while I have Sorrow Harvester and Little Sister. I also have Kanaaq Miner to mix some Sneak attacks. It took a while but because of Kanaaq Miner and the weaken-Thalgrimore combo, I was able to take out enemy Sorrow Harvester which gave back the health of my units. Once the enemy Nim Guard Captain fell, I got access to their backline and Little Sister was able to finally stack some health. These differences gave me the advantage I needed to win.
