Not every Splinterlands unit needs to deal damage to be valuable. Some exist simply to buy you time and let the rest of your team do their job. That’s where Asel Agosdil comes in a unit designed more as a shield than a sword and sometimes that’s all you need.
In this article, we’ll take a closer look at what makes Asel Agosdil unique despite its lack of offense. Foundation Cards are very limited so these type of cards are appreciated. We’ll see how its strengths play out in certain rule sets and where it ends up being a liability and need to avoid. The goal here is to figure out if this card is as good as I claim or it's actually a flop.

Let's talk about… Asel Agosdil

────────────────────────
Asel is the eldest daughter of House Alagosdil, one of the five noble families that govern Alcantari. From childhood, she showed an extraordinary talent with ice magic, and her displays are known across the archipelago for their elegance and precision. To the people, she is a symbol of grace and composure.
But those who know her best speak of the cost. Asel keeps her distance, afraid of what might happen if her control slips. She has seen what unchecked magic can do and fears becoming the very force she’s sworn to restrain. Even within the Council of Houses, where her voice carries weight, she chooses her words carefully.

Stats:
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Mana: 4 | Rarity: Epic |
Damage: 0 attack | Armor: 3 |
Speed: 2 | Health: 6 |
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Buy and Rent:
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
At $1.853 for a level 1 copy Asel Agosdil is priced quite expensive compared to other cards. This is fair since it is a new card but it still lacks stats for how much mana it requires. For collectors or players wanting to complete their collection, it’s a good price still to grab.
There are no available cards to rent right now so the rental market is basically empty for Asel Agosdil. That makes it impossible to call it expensive or cheap but it could be valuable in the future if people realize how useful Divine Shield plus armor can be in stalling battles. If it ever gets listed expect it to go for a reasonable low to mid rental cost. On the other hand, playing Frontier Mode and clearing daily rewards or increasing your ranks may earn you an Asel Agosdil for free. Try playing Frontier Mode if you want to get your own.

Rule Sets:
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Use it in... |
![]() Only Units & Summoners that cost 4 Mana or less may be used in battles. With only 4 mana cost it fits perfectly here as a main tank. 4 health is a good health for Foundation cards. |
![]() All Units have 2 Armor in addition to their normal Armor stat. Gains even more durability with extra armor stacked on top. This makes her survive longer making your units last more rounds. |
![]() All units have Thorns (returns 2 damage to attacker when hit by a melee attack) A unit that has not attack cannot be affected by abilities like Thorns, Magic Reflect and Return Fire making her a perfect tank for this rule set. |
Avoid using it in... |
![]() All units have Opportunity (targets the enemy unit with the least health). There are a lot of units that have less than 4 health in foundation cards. This means other units may be targeted first before attacking this card that cannot attack. |
![]() Units do not have any armor and do not get armor from Abilities or Summoner Buffs. Durability is the only resource and use of this card. Reducing the stats means reducing its overall effectiveness. |
![]() All Units start the battle Poisoned. Asel Agosdil does not have any defenses against Poison. The Water Element also don't have units with Cleanse if you're playing Frontier Mode making Noxious Fumes a really bad rule set to play this card in. |

Battle Strat: I want Asel Agosdil to be the main tank so instead of the strategy I use with Great Bear Druid in Equal Opportunity rule set where I chose units with lower health than him, I did the complete opposite here. To make sure enemies will focus on Asel Agosdil first, you may not use any units with lower than 4 health. That focuses the attacks from the front first allowing you to control the game.
Battle Summary: The strategy worked as planned and they focused on Asel Agosdil first. While she eventually died after a few rounds, that still allowed me to take out their main tank. The exchange was way worth the price and this is the reason I won this game despite my enemy having a clear advantage in power.
