Hello everyone! Welcome back to my Splinterlands blog, it's an exciting time to be a Splinterlands player! We just got a new card set released, and with it, the Untamed and Dice set got moved out of Modern League, the last set (Chaos Legion) released 18 months ago I think, maybe longer?
With it comes a lot of new cards and even new abilities, that's so cool about this game, it completely changes the meta and we have to find new strategies and synergies, and boy! I got to admit, yesterday when I first saw the cards and abilities I was a bit overwhelmed 😅. It takes time to remember every card, it's abilities and mana value, brain training!
It definitely feels like the crypto winter is over, Bitcoin reached $44k yesterday, and while it's around the freezing point outside, crypto enthusiasts feel the crypto sun shining!!

Our own token, the Splinterlands Shard or SPS is doing well too, it blasted right trough the $0.023 level without backtesting it, and blasted trough the $0.029 level too and hit the next level at at $0.036, currently, it's backtesting the $0.029 level, and that's fine, we can't shoot in one single blow to the moon, it's healthy price action!

Ok.. enough small talk right? After all, it's a Battle Mage Secrets post!
This weeks challenge requires us to make a post about the Weak Magic ruleset, in which magic has to eat trough armor first, just like melee and ranged damage, essentially making all armor, void armor.
To find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, you can read the Splinterlands post here.

With this ruleset, magic is less important and I focus on having these abilities in my team, if the total mana for the battle allows it of course:

  • Repair
  • Shatter
  • Resurrect

I was just grinding my ranked battles, while trying some new things with the new cards every now and then, and I got a nice Weak Magic battle just now, good moment to start posting!

This battle is a 32 mana Modern League, Weak Magic / Aim True with only the Life splinter locked out, with magic less prevalent, I like my team to be fast and have high armor, so I had two options, Quix, for nerfing ranged damage, or Kelya for the +1 armor, basically giving all my team one extra hit, in this case I chose Kelya and before I was making my team, I already had a good idea what I was going to play, Diemon Shark or Djinn Chwala would be the two most logical options, so I needed shatter to quickly kill one of them while I also needed repair to keep my own Diemon Shark alive, so when my opponent has the same idea's I'm going to have an advantage at the start.

First look at the battlefield:

Nice, my opponent has the same idea, great minds think alike, GG @impacto! So, while he also has the Diemon Shark / River Hellondale combo, my Musa Saline will quickly kill his tank both times, it's such a powerful little card! My sneak protection can't out heal two sneakers attacking it I think, but it can buy my team some time so that's nice, I think I'll be okay.

My Line-Up:

  • Summoner: Kelya Frendul - reason: +1 Armor is the main reason now, extra speed is always nice.
  • First position: Diemon Shark - reason: Great tank, becoming a beast when it's enraged.
  • Second position: Torrent Fiend - reason: Just a meat shield, and to distract enemy opportunity monsters.
  • Third position: River Hellondale - reason: Inspire, Resurrect, making Diemon Shark very annoying to get trough.
  • Fourth position: Musa Saline - reason: Don't underestimate this little lady, Shatter is so good!
  • Fifth position: Swamp Spitter - reason: Repair with good attack.
  • Sixth position: Angelic Mandarin - reason: Sneak protection, healing itself when it gets hit.

The Battle:

Round 1: Musa was the first to fire and immediately shattering Diemon Sharks armor, the combined attacks from the rest of my team already killed Diemon Shark for the first time, which tank will attack first next round?

image.png

Round 2: Impacto's tank attacked first, killing mine, so my resurrect got used already too, my sneak protection couldn't handle two sneakers, as expected, hopefully Uraeus gets to the first position soon or they will kill my Swamp Spitter.

Round 3: Everything went fast this round, killing both Tide Biter as well as Uraeus, it's over for the other team, Diemon Shark will hit first, killing River, Pelacor Bandit will go to the first position, unable to hit my repair and waiting to get killed, it's why I don't like to use Merdhampir as the last card because it leeched HP is of no use this way/

Round 4: Only Merdhampir is left on the other team, waiting to be finished off.

A win! and a nice amount of SPS, I started the season in Wild so I'm still climbing the ranks in Modern now, so I'm not at full rewards just yet, but still, it's nice!

Well, that's it for this post, time for lunch now, I don't think I have enough time to make my second post for this week because I need to drain my energy with ranked battles too, so that probably will happen Saturday.
