Splinterlands Battle Challenge - Haunted Spider

in #splinterlands2 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone. Our featured card for this week is from the Death Splinter: Haunted Spider. I don't use this card at all, so it will be a bit of a challenge trying to fit it in our lineup. Hopefully it'll help us win this battle.

Challenge Rules

THEME: HAUNTED SPIDER
Edition: ALPHA/BETA
Rarity: COMMON
Element: DEATH
ATTACK: RANGED
ABILITIES: Poison at level 4

Battle Ruleset

Mana Limit: 28

Aim True: Attacks won't miss. Abilities like evade or flight or phase won't give any advantage. Similarly de-buff like Blind will be rendered useless.

Holy Protection: All monsters get the Divine Shield ability. The first time the Monster takes damage from a monster it is ignored.

Lineup Strategy

Our opponent has used Crowling about three times as I've seen in his previous five matchups. Since we are anticipating a battle led by Mylor Crowling as our opponent's summoner, our plan is to go all out on Ranged attack power and take advantage of the Aim True battle rule.

Summoner: Zintar Mortalis

We're using Zintar Mortalis in this lineup to lower the Melee damage of our opponent's monsters and hopefully would be a great advantage in this matchup.

Tank: Peaceful Giant

Since we are anticipating our opponent on using Mylor Crowling as his summoner, we are going to use a tank that does not attack to prevent him from receiving further damage from the Thorns abiliy that Crowling gives to friendly monsters at the start of battle. This ability returns damage back to Melee attackers.

Undead Priest

This card also cannot attack but we are using it in this lineup because of its Weaken ability that reduces the Health of all enemy Monsters. Not bad for a 2 mana monster with 3 health.

Haunted Spider

As one of our damage dealers, we're placing our featured card in the 3rd position so that it will be protected from attacks coming from the front and also from the back. Its Ranged attack of 2 is quite awesome for a 3 mana Ranged monster.

Twisted Jester

Also one of our damage dealers. Its Snipe ability that Targets enemy Monsters with Ranged, Magic, or no attack that are not in the first position would be useful in this battle. Hopefully it locks into one of our opponent's damage dealers.

Mantoid

Also one of our damage dealers. It also has the Snipe ability and Ranged attack power of 2. One of my favorite Neutral Monster in the game.

Goblin Chariot

Last but not the least is this card. It also has a Ranged attack power of 2 but with a higher speed of 3.

On Round 1, our damage dealers with the Snipe ability were able to kill the enemy monster with the Silence ability that reduces the Magic Attack of all enemy Monsters. It does not affect our team since we're using Ranged attack monsters.

Our team was able to kill another enemy monster on Round 2. Good thing it was killed this early in the battle since it was the healer of our opponent's lineup. The remaining enemy monsters only have 1 attack power, which increases our team's survival.

The enemy tank monster died on Round 3. Things are looking good on our team by this round since there are less threats on our opponent's lineup. Although they still have high health, their attack only does 1 damage.

Undead Priest died on Round 5 but our team was able to wipe out our opponent's team by Round 6. Thanks to our damage dealers who were able to do enough damage to win the game.

Conclusion

Our opponent did not use monsters with attacks higher that 1 except for Mushroom Seer since he was relying on the Thorns ability that Crowling adds to friendly monsters. Since we're using a team of Ranged damage dealer's, our opponent's strategy was disrupted which led to our victory.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

Our strategy definitely worked since our opponent heavily relied on Crowling's Thorns buff.
I usually use an all Ranged attack when fighting an opponent who uses Crowling.

Do you like the HAUNTED SPIDER? Why or why not?

Haunted Spider is a good card if its at level 4 because of its Poison ability. However, without this ability, I would probably prefer another monster with better stats at 3 mana.

I hope you liked our featured matchup for today. Have a great day everyone and stay safe!!!

What is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a digital, collectible card game built on blockchain technology. It is similar in concept to games like Magic the Gathering and Heartstone where you build up a collection of cards, which all have various different stats and abilities, and use them to battle other players in skill-based matches. By using a blockchain technology, players can buy, sell and trade their digital assets freely just as if they were physical cards, and all transactions are recorded publicly and immutably.

Nice victory, it's great to see Mylor defeated by NOT playing melee!

P.S. A better budget tank might be Onyx Sentinel!

Yeah, I totally forgot about Onyx Sentinel's ability. I'll use it next time against Mylor. Tnx!
