The scavenger ability is a particular one, while any monster dies, doesn't matter if it's yours or an enemy, the monster with the scavenger gains 1 health. So the best option it's to place it in the last position to benefit of all the fallen fighter and get the highest health level. Every source of magic got at least one monster with this ability and many are combined with the opportuny ability, so you must have at least a couple of them to be competitive.
Ruleset:

My lineup:

A plus 1 health for each moster it's always a good start especially with the little league ruleset can be fundamental

The biceratops at level 6 has a good melee attack + armor and with the thorns ability it's an extra damage to all melee attackers

Magic attack, good speed, divine shield, stun, there's enough to be a good fighter and help your team to gain some benefit

You should never forget to have at least one monster hitting the back lines and soften the enemy's health for the final part of the battle

Here's a very smart guy: the opportuny makes every attack wisely choosen and scavenger rises the health higher with each death

All the team's strength gets another +1 and the 1st line a good healing and a magic attack that never fails

Maybe doesn't seem an important fighter but the affliction ability can make the difference between losing and winning if the enemy got some healing abilities
The battle:
The opponent got 4 ranged attack monsters and a 1st line with the void ability, looks like an interesting combination

Round 1 and 2 worked pretty well for my team, lost 1 but killed 2 and now dealing only with ranged ones

My team was much more assorted with different attackers and abilities and 5 are still battling in the last round
