Another glorious season of Splinterlands has come to the end. If you play regularly you would have clearly felt things getting heated up all over the Splinterlands ecosystem. More players trying out the game, more content creators making blogs, tutorials and videos about the gameplay, more players joining the mentorship program, new developments getting ready to be deployed.
The biggest new feature this season was launch of the “Survival Mode” on top of the regular Modern and Wild formats. You must be already familiar with Modern format which allows the use of Chaos and Rebellion series only. Wild format on the other hand allows all card collections but needs a entry card to be purchased to start playing.
Survival made things crazier by putting the condition that each card that dies during the battle will be “Dead” for a few days according to the card rarity level.
This season consisted of three phases for me:
Trying out Survival- Getting absolutely rekt, getting close to 100 cards dead
Going back to Modern- Slogging it out and hitting Diamond III League
One More Shot at Survival- Used some of the tips shared by Costanze and finally entered Bronze III League, could not make it to Bronze II, maybe next time
How Was my First Experience with Survival Mode?
I think Survival Mode in current setup is not meant for smaller or newer players with limited collection of cards. It is evident that you need large collection with multiple copies of good cards to make it in Survival mode.
This is specially valid for Summoners as if your favourite summoner gets killed you will be handicapped for the entire element.
This is a problem for me at the moment as most of my portfolio consists of AI coins, Memecoins and Airdropped coins. All 3 of these categories are 90% down from their peaks, which basically means my liquidity levels are non existent. This makes getting multiple copies of Summoners which are the most expensive card types out of the question for me.
Slogging it Out and Making it to Diamond III League!
After my disastrous first experience with Survival mode which got many of my favourite cards locked out, I started building strategies with my remaining collection and started going hard at Modern format of the gameplay.
This was a lesson learnt for me that next time I will use my Wild cards for Survival and my Chaos and Rebellion cards in Modern.
Thanks to my strong collections in Water and Life elements I entered the Diamond League but immediately hit a wall and could n to proceed further to Diamond II. The competition in Splinterlands is getting tougher and tougher with each season.
I complained last time that I got very few cards from the reward chests but this time I was lucky with many cards coming out of the chests including a legendary, an epic and a rare.
Going Back to Survival Mode on the Last Day of the Season!
Once I hit a level in Modern where I could not go any further I decided to go for a last stand in Survival mode as anyways all dead cards will become alive at end of the season. I started swingling wildly and finally managed to move of Wood League to Bronze III.
This was a flashback to 6 years back when I had just started playing and I use to move from Wood league onwards.
My end of Season Glint was just 18K which was much lower than normal as all that fighting out in Survival did not get me any Glint.
I will have to plan out better for the next season.
