Collection Power Phase 3 Details

Phase 2 of the Collection Power update was released last week and from a technical perspective it went without a hitch (all credit goes to @cryptomancer for that). Now the team is gearing up to release phase 3 which will primarily add the separate league leaderboards as well as fix a few issues that have come up since the release of phase 2.

The team is working very hard to get phase 3 released on Tuesday, September 15th around 12 PM - 1 PM ET (16:00 UTC), shortly after the end of the current ranked play season. This is a very tight timeline for us and was pushed up from originally being at the end of the month, so if issues come up which require it to be pushed back we will let you know here, but we really want to get it out asap since we know a lot of players are eagerly awaiting it!

League Leaderboards

Phase three of the collection power update will add separate ranked play leaderboards into the game for each league. There will not be separate leaderboards for each tier within each league, and there will not be a leaderboard for the Novice league, so that means that there will be a total of 5 different leaderboards: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond, and the existing Champion League Leaderboard.

Each leaderboard will have its own separate pool of prizes given out to the top players in the leaderboard at the end of each ranked play season. The Champion League leaderboard prizes will remain the same as they have been in the past. The prizes for the other leaderboards are still TBD, but will likely also be Untamed edition booster packs. Please keep in mind that leaderboard prizes at all levels are subject to change at any time.

Players will be ranked on the leaderboards by their rating. If a player achieves a high enough rating to move up to the next league (and they have the required collection power to move up to that league), they will have the option to choose whether to move up or to remain in their current league.

Choosing to move up to the next league will require the player to submit the appropriate transaction to the blockchain and can be done at any time provided that the player has a high enough rating and collection power to move up. This will allow players to choose when or if they would like to move up to a higher league, rather than being forced up due to their collection power increasing.

For example, if a player in Silver I, with a collection power over 100,000, goes above 1900 rating points (the minimum required for Gold league), they will have the option to move up to the Gold league or remain in Silver. If they choose to remain in the Silver league, then they will compete for the Silver league leaderboard and their rating may go above 1900 points. If they choose to move up to the Gold league then they will compete for the Gold league leaderboard for that season, even if their collection power and/or rating drops them to a lower league during the season.

Additionally, players with ratings above the max for their league will no longer earn win streak bonuses or the 10 point minimum rating increase for ranked battle wins. This is how the Champion I league currently works and ensures that the competition for the top leaderboard spots is based primarily on skill and not on exploiting the modifications to the ELO rating system.

Ongoing Changes

We also want to reiterate that it's unlikely we will get everything 100% right on the first try with such large-scale changes as these. Once the updates are released we will be actively monitoring the results and listening to player feedback to catch and address any unexpected issues that may arise or anything that's not working out as intended.

We appreciate the patience, support, and construtive feedback we have received from all of our early adopters - you! - as we work to ensure that Splinterlands is set up to support sustainable, long-term growth. We are working on many exciting opportunities to gain new player acquisition channels and improve new player retention, and these changes are an integral part of ensuring that the game can support the increased level of growth that we are hoping to achieve in the coming months.

AZMARE Dice Update

We also wanted to take this opportunity to give a quick update on the recently released AZMARE Dice set. As usual, we were blown away by the response. Well over 100M DEC have been burned purchasing Dice which accounts for nearly 20% of the total existing supply!

Additionally, I'm sure most of you have noticed that we are less than 10,000 Dice away from the first airdrop. We will be revealing the first Dice airdrop card very soon, including more details about the airdrop (chances per Dice pack purchased, minimum guaranteed amount, etc) here on our blog, so keep an eye out for that!

Stay tuned for more updates from the Splinterlands!

NOTE: All rewards from this post will go to @steem.dao (the Hive Development Fund account) to support the development of the Hive platform.

Great job on this one... It will be a change people will love when they get used to it. Plus it will make the rewards system able to properly reward all players at ALL levels, thus enabling you to focus on what's most important, spreading the game to a much larger audience. I know some people don't fully understand it, but if they give it a few weeks after the Phase 4 new rewards are implemented, I think they will find this was an elegant solution! Again, great job!!!

Pretty stoked about this leaderboard concept. It took me a long time to start hitting the champion leagues and was a little upset that it was now based more on deck value than skill. You guys always figure out a way to keep the game fun, so I probably just need to keep the faith. These new leaderboards should add some fun to the new system.

When I saw this update, I thought about you lol. Won't need to be padding my deck with pointless legendary gfs anymore 😄

I'm really looking forward to seeing this rolled out now. It should definitely keep the game fun!

Yup yup. He leagues will be very competitive and there'll be more reason for people to "stay in their lane"

I'm excited about the new card coming up!

🐷🐷🐽😂🤣

This is extraordinary work and a major boon to the game. Fantastic idea to reward players at all levels. Wonderful job also steempeak bringing back the 180 day rental option. Things appear to be going very well because I can't think of anything to bitch about, lol.

We're not SteemPeak we're PeakMonsters ... but thanks glad you're liking it. Hoping some day to get the time to make rentals much more usable.

So looking forward to this leaderbord change! By reading this I think guys made it even better then I imagined on forehand. Great to have a choice to stay in a lower league. I believe people do like choices 😎

I didn't know that the DEC used to purchase packs in game was burned. Niiice

DEC are burned for all purchases except for Untamed booster packs. In the case of Untamed packs, the DEC goes to Splinterlands since these are the packs that we sell in order to make money to support the development and growth of the game.

what percentage is burned?

Not sure what you mean exactly here. When dice/potions/skins are purchased then 100% of that DEC is burned. No DEC is burned for Untamed pack purchases. Guild contributions also burn DEC. Let me know if that's not what you were asking.

that is exactly what i was asking. thanks

Cool.

Interesting having the option of remaining in one league versus advancing to the other. Would be nice in some ways but it's a bit sketchy in others. Hopefully the bots will know to advance otherwise the lower leagues are going to get absolutely decimated by the EnMiner bots at the start of the new seasons that get put there. It was a bit sad this morning I only encountered one non-bot player in my gaming.

:fact:
Saddly, humans already lost rewards. Check out what it looks like in Silver Leagues, read https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@miloshpro/re-splinterlands-qgc5wb

I see no way that humans can close that 800+ rating points gap, and that is only one bot of thousands of them all over the game.

Cheers!

I think everyone who doesnt make top 50 in their league will drop down at the end of every season to claim reward. I like the idea of competing agsinst others in the same CP level better. And i think GF should count the same CP as regular so that it doesnt boost holders in to unnecessary league.

You cannot drop down, you can only choose not to advance. If you choose to advance to a higher league, then you will only be eligible for that league's leaderboard in the current season, even if your rating/CP falls during that season.

This also handles your GF card issue - it's your choice if you move up to a higher league or not.

I'm confused. What happens if my card rentals expire? So I'm stuck in the high leagues with no chance of winning against overpowered cards because I can't drop down to lower level competition?

If your collection power (or rating) drops, you will drop down into a lower league and face opponents in that league, but you will not be eligible to compete in that league's leaderboard until the following season. Otherwise players could purposely drop down to a lower leaderboard right before the end of the season and take the top spots.

Ok that sounds good, thnx

what issue? select upgrades and a little brain power goes a long ways

I would recommend using the rewards from this post to purchase some cards from the market and burn them or to purchase DEC from the market to pump its price. @steem.dao already has enough funds. Please consider this suggestion from your next post onwards.

Thank you for the suggestion, but Splinterlands already purchases a very significant amount of DEC off of the market as it is and we also do not want to take any rewards from the Hive reward pool (beyond the curation rewards we already receive).

This is a great update for players at all levels!

:facts:
There are firsthand experiences with new Collection Power system. Read https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@miloshpro/re-splinterlands-qgc5wb

:reply:
I am deeply concerned with the growing number of players leaving the game for good (read all comments of this blog). Also, although it is long time since I started to write about bad effects of new system named today as Collection Power, things are only getting worse for the game because I am so unhappy that my words have been turning into reality now. So many have been warning with good intentions that many other games that lost new players have turned to void places. And it is Collection Power making bad things for potential new players. Read for example https://peakd.com/splinterlands/@dionix123/re-splinterlands-qg5fbc

And all named problems could be solved in different way that would not have bad side effects.

Cheers!

How will the leaderboard changes effect the distribution of DEC thru ranked plays?
Is the old formula still in play or will it be modified as well?

I miss some funds in my Hive-Engine.

The long awaited day comes!!! ACTUAL LEAGUES has been my biggest request since battle started more so than battle anytime.

As happy about that as i am... Not sure how it will work out without REAL ELO ... without real elo bots are still overly rewarded because of non-stop play because of the modifications you've made to how elo works what you call: "exploiting the modifications to the ELO rating system".

So question: Why does there need to be those modifications anymore?

Good job. I love SPLINTERLANDS.

You're kidding, right?

So you're saying that for those of us who have been punished for having the skill with our existing cards to be at a higher rank than the ceiling that you are imposing--

Not only can't we earn more reward cards, which we would earn if we were not limited by play to play card power, we can't earn win streak bonuses either? Is this only for our "rank points" (which is a legitimate slap in the face), or does this apply to DEC earnings also (which is akin to something more vulgar that I would prefer not glorifying on the blockchain)?

Thanks for the info. I am looking forward to seeing how it plays out.
Very concerned with how bots will play out... It seems like that's all I face in silver.
On a related note, THANK YOU for adding multiple rules to silver! I was very happy when I suddenly realized I was seeing two rules.

So far so good, im adopting to this new setup. All my cards from my other account is merge.

yes 2 days

Good job

What is the current supply and inflation outlook for DEC? Also what is the potential mechanism to handle 30M + sale of DEC?
