For this Battle Challenge I got to use three of my favorite cards from my favorite Splinter. Here's a link to THE BATTLE. The entry is a few days late because I'm a new dad and can't always get things together in time (see cute dragon kid below). I'm posting it on this week's battle challenge and hopefully I'll get up to date by the end of the week!

Dragons have always been a favorite mythical category. From Puff the Magic Dragon, to Smaug guarding the treasure in the Hobbit, to the Luck Dragon from The Never Ending Story, these scaly, slithering, soaring, stink breaths penetrate deep into the human mythological imagination.

Here's my kid in a bad ass dragon get up! Bring on the cute points!

Back to the Game...

The Strategy

I'll briefly run down my card choices.

This was an "Explosive Weaponry" battle. Which meant flaming shrapnel was going to be shooting off in all directions. So speed was of the essence, and the most damage would be done by shooting into the center of the enemy line.

It was also an Armored Up battle, so I chose to throw in some Magic to get under my opponents defenses (magic blast is killer!) and to use Void and Void Armor to defend against the same thinking on the part of my opponent.

I chose Quix as my Summoner, primarily to slow the opponent, and so I would have access to two specific blue monsters. Quix is my only Legendary Summoner. If I had him leveled up to Level 2, both my Chaos Dragon and Djinn Oshannus would be able to play at Level 2, but his speed advantage is pretty awesome even at Level 1. Dragons are already so fast, that taking down the other players speed puts them at a huge disadvantage.

To further support increasing the speed gap, I through in an Ooze. I purchased Ooze yesterday and can not believe how helpful this one mana buff card is.

Between the two Speed Buffs, most of my opponents cards had speeds of 1 or two, with even the lightning quick Peryton down to a speed of 3. Meanwhile, I had two 5 speed cards in my line-up.

Dragon Jumper.png

Enter the Dragon Jumper.

Dragon Jumper was the first Legendary I ever received and remains one of my favorite cards. With a Speed of 5, attack of 3, and Opportunity, this Kamikaze swoops in and wreaks havoc on enemy back lines. According to the lore, this Creature isn't a Dragon at all, but Gloridax soldiers that jump off dragon backs to sneak in on their enemies. They're essentially dudes in flying squirrel suits. Kinda like these guys.

Chaos Dragon

Chaos Dragon was my other primary offensive. Scattershot is incredibly likely to blow into the back lines, and enemy blast damage also sneaks under the armor. This is a Gold card, so it's up at level 2, but I don't actually have a Summoner advanced to cast it at that level, so the rules of the game allowed me to play this dragon in their full glory.

Legionnaire Alvar

Legionnaire Alvar made an awesome defensive tank for this battle. Void Armor stopped the likely magic offense of the other team. Coupled with the bonus armor from the rule set and two more armor from the Venari Wavesmith, this Shield started the game with the capacity to absorb 12 magic damage on top of his 6 health points.

I brought on this defensive water wizard primarily to reinforce Alvar with some bonus Void Armor. She also does alright getting one hit on the Peryton because my opponent placed them in the line of danger of blasts shooting off the Slipspawn.

Djinn Oshannus

Djinn Oshannus was next as a strong magic defense as well as offense. With 5 speed, Void, and 2 magic power offense, this was an awesome 2nd position card. If my summoner allowed me to play him at the level 2 that I have him at, it would have added Phase to my defensive ability, allowing me to dodge magic attack at the same rate as other attacks. I guess that's one more reason to get a few more Quixs!

The Battle

Here's the opening line-up

By the end of round 1, everyone was still standing. My defenses had held up with Alvar at 3 health. Meanwhile, my back line was untouched while my opponents was massively drained. The placement of Slipspawn Taunt next to the typically hard to hit Peryton meant their fastest creature couldn't avoid the bounce off from the blast. Meanwhile, their Goblin Psychic did a good job keeping thie Unicorn at full health.

During Round 2, Dragon Jumper finished off the Myscelial Taunt, and Chaos Dragons mighty magic chose Goblin Psychic as it's main aim with the blast sneaking under the Venari Spellsmith's armor to take them out as well.

By the end of Round 2, The Unicorn took out Alvar, but they were the only one on the enemy team left standing.

Oshannus, the Jumper, and Chaos Dragon sneezed and took out the Magic Horse to bring Quix to Quick victory.
