"Splinterlands" Power Strategy Tips #53

Screenshot (3271).png

As I have now been playing "Splinterlands" and "Drug Wars" for over a year, I've wanted to contribute something of ACTIONABLE value to my fellow players (and FUTURE players) - but NOT just fill my Steemit feed with daily images of quest reward - or battle - SPAM (no offense to those doing so). Ultimately, Steemit is about ADDING VALUE to the social experience - that is the magic of blockchain social media technology. So, after some serious pondering, I decided that a weekly ""Splinterlands" player strategy diary" type series, with CONCISE and ACTIONABLE tips, would be of most value to my audience. Please let me know your thoughts (good and/or bad), and I hope that readers (now and into the future) will benefit from this series. If you gain a better understanding of blockchain, gaming, "blockchain gaming", marketing, psychology, forensics, philosophy, ethics, leadership, investment, and/or any other area(s) of knowledge I end up exploring (voluntarily or involuntarily) as this series naturally progresses, then I will have done my "good deed" (of providing value) for the week. Also, feel free to hit me up on the battlefield.

1 ) For a more "bird's eye view" of this weekly series- in relation to my larger mission here - I made some serious moves forward in integrating some of the stronger components of my current collection of dApps (ex. Splinterlands, PLUS these weekly posts on #Hive, PLUS DrugWars - and the individual income streams, and unique features, which each provide) to AMPLIFY the ROI of the whole collection. For instance, the income from these weekly posts (thanks to the (up until this point) JUICY weekly Hive upvotes these posts get) has been enabling me to go on a nice, larger weekly "card shopping spree" upon payout day each week, which provides a nice boost to the effort. These posts also act as a "focal point" by which I organize my strategy, provide valuable info to others, and gain some very valuable feedback from the larger community (both WITHIN the Hive sphere, as well as the wider internet). However, I also need to factor into the equation my OTHER two weekly series posts, which both bring in additional crypto (to buy more Splinterlands cards), boost the exposure of blockchain gaming, draw in new followers, etc. In fact, as I hadn't checked my Presearch account in the past few months, upon checking this week I saw that I now have FIVE referrals (up from two), and those could have ONLY come from my weekly "blockchain gaming" and "blockchain social media" posts (where I post the referral link to Presearch : https://www.presearch.org/signup?rid=290755 ), as those posts are the ONY place I have been posting the referral link. So that is a good additional METRIC of of progress of all of my three weekly series posts combined. In addition, as described in #4 below, I have made significant progress this week on getting my two main fellow Drug Wars gang members mobilized on the Splinterlands front, and that will BOTH reap some ROI in terms of crypto, as well as revitalize the gang morale as we gradually hedge against potential decline of the Drug Wars game into the future. It's always best to not "put all of one's eggs in one basket", as the saying goes.

Screenshot (3501).png

2 ) Luckily I bought that final 100 (+ 10 free) Orbs pack batch last week, because they have already sold out! I was expecting them to go fast, but not within just a few days! Actually, I believe that @splinterlands admin decided to cut off the purchase of Orbs packs with a few thousand packs remaining - probably partly to run some future promotions (judging by the "Look for a mini-set purchaseable only with DEC coming soon") message now on the page, and probably partly to switch the Orbs packs with Untamed packs in the daily quest reward dump (likely in order to accelerate the pace of distribution of the Untamed packs so that they can hit the airdrop milestones at a faster pace, and we can get those airdropped cards in a more reasonable pace (like one every month or so)). Ultimately, for me this is a welcomed shift, since - as I have written about recently - I have added up to five addition packs per season to my daily pack-opening strategy (adding one additional pack upon reaching each new season level during the season), and so these extra few packs (estimated based on the pace of getting Untamed packs in the daily rewards dumps since they started adding them this past week) will offset the loss of those handful of "season milestone" packs I am opening each season, and thus keep my pace consistantly at "one pack per day". So I am now on course to BOTH offset those extra few season packs WHILE ALSO getting the remaining eight airdropped cards FASTER than the pace we were moving before - thereby more quickly recouping part of the total amount I spent on the 993 Untamed packs I have bought since the first airdrop, and also being able to sell some of those airdropped cards for DEC to buy more of the cards I want.

Screenshot (3328).png

3 ) In addition to successfully being more consistent in reading the most important posts related to #Splinterlands (like those from the offical @splinterlands Hive account), I have also been focusing some more attention on reading more posts from some of the players I have consistently encountered in battle in the 1+ year that I have been involved with the game. One of the main benefits of this is that it helps you get to know who is actually out there - instead of just knowing the other players by their avatars during battles. This adds some dimension to the game - in the same way as knowing something about your opponent(s) in ANY game/sport adds dimension and enjoyment to the experience. You can also share some more targeted strategy tips with other players (especially those who are just beginning), as you know more about where they're at - like a mentorship type of situation. I think this is good for morale in the game overall. I also have a more PROACTIVE hand with my two fellow gang members, as I give them some experience-based guidance to help them advance in the game. It's always good to be able to see people experience the enjoyment of this game, as another (at that time) Steemian did for me when I was trying to get over the HUMP in the beginning phase of the my involvement (back during the "beta" phase of the game).

Screenshot (3530).png

4 ) Related to #3, but on the #DrugWars front, although I took the "Drug Wars" name off of the title of the posts in this series, and have written in significant detail about my growing "crisis of confidence" in the viability of the Drug Wars game, our main gang leader - who had to take a few months off for "life issues" (which no one had any issue with, by the way, as we ALL seem to be dealing with stuff lately) has returned this week and posted a message of support for some of the "crisis of confidence" complaints of other members of the gang over the past month or two - including the main concern that the game is becoming "boring". And considering that (as I have written about in detail in recent posts in this series) I have been getting increasingly concerned about the viablilty of @drugwars, as well as the general ROI ratio of (time spent pushing the buttons / Drug Wars Dollars (DWD) income ) - as well as the fact that Drug wars has NOT made any attempt to migrate to #Hive, and I believe that #Steem is essentially dead at this point, I decided to more proactively make my case to the group that we begin to put some SERIOUS effort into getting the core gang members up and running on Splinterlands. The good news is that they were BOTH very receptive to this, especially since they could see more clearly my concerns about Drug Wars. And so seeing their interest properly piqued I set about implementing a strategy by which to INCENTIVIZE their efforts on Splinterlands. The core strategy now includes the following elements: ( 1 ) get both gang members active and playing Splinterlands (one guy already had an account (although he sold off many of his cards in frustration last month - understandable), whereas the other guy didn't even have an account (so we got his account up and running). ( 2 ) As a way of getting them ACTIVELY experimenting with, and earning/buying new cards - yet doing so in a way that they don't feel like I am doing all of the work for them - I decided on a simple "positive reinforcement" strategy of gifting/airdropping them one of my daily rewards and/or Untamed packs cards. I originally designed the strategy so that I would only drop the daily card once they posted a screenshot of their daily reward card dump in our Discord channel, but seeing that that was a bit slow-going in the beginning, I tweaked that strategy so that I would AUTOMATICALLY drop them (each) one "gang reward card", BUT that if they ALSO posted a screenshot of their daily reward dump then I would be able to better CUSTOMIZE my selection of the one "gang reward card" to complement their growing collection of cards. In this way, they are INCENTIVIZED to experiment with the cards (by completing the daily quest), and earn additional cards (in the quest reward dumps) WITHOUT my assistance, but also have the advantage of getting a more customized drop of one "gang reward card" to accelerate their progress (which is amplified by my 1+ year of daily gameplay). By the time of publishing this post this strategy is working VERY WELL, and I have introduced some additional components to the overall all "mentorship" (ex. ( 1 ) introducing the two "newbies" to the Peakmonsters site : https://peakmonsters.com/@transcript-junky/collection , and showing them how to browse each other's collections, ( 2 ) showing one of the guys (who mentioned that he wanted a new death summoner) how to use the "lease" function, whereby I leased him one of my airdropped summoners (which I don't use) so that he could experiment with it, and add some additional non-summoner cards (plus buy some of that same summoner) before I unlease it to him, and ( 3 ) some additional tasks which I will detail in future posts of this series. The good news is that in JUST ONE WEEK we have now put my desired amount of focus onto Splinterlands, and my larger goal of "putting primary focus on Splinterlands, and slowly weaning off of Drug Wars (as much as each gang members desires to do so) is on the way to fruition. I consider that to be a major move forwards, relative to where we were just last week. In relation to Drug Wars, the larger goal is to continue playing that game, but using all/most of the DWD proceeds to convert to DEC and buy additional Spinterlands cards. I have shown both gang members how to do that, and I believe they have each started implementing that task as well. This strategy creates a nice "hedge" for our Drugwars activity, while also moving us further along in the Splinterlands game, which is where I personally believe the REAL action is, long term.

Screenshot (3241).png

5 ) Okay. As I did in the last post in this series, the highly-detailed "diary" of my daily #splinterlands activity is laid out in the last part of this post, for those of you who are inclined to follow, more closely, what I am doing. It occurred to me that this "diary" section is JUST THAT - a highly detailed record of my daily activity in the game, with some JUICY "play-by-play" analysis notes, and commentary, on what works, what doesn't, and some suggestions for further tweaking and experimentation. So, with this in mind, I hope some/any of you will enjoy this information. If not, you are under no pressure to read it fully, and are free to SKIM, or even IGNORE, any parts, or ALL parts, completely - at your discretion. I lay this out because it also HELPS ME to document my progress in the game over time, and may help some people NOW, and into the perpetual future...

4 x "Giant Scorpion" (Gold - Level 3 - $1.60 USD - 2,605 DEC -- bumped up to Level 6 (to increase "speed" from "+2" to "+3")

Notes: After I went on the Orbs pack-buying RAMPAGE today, and ended up burning a bunch of my non-gold (cheaper) Untamed cards (the ones which I already had gold versions of the same card at the same level) I realized that there is really no need to hold the non-gold versions of the cards I use regularly (if I have the gold version). So, for the cheaper cards, I am now in the process of burning the non-gold versions to buy up more gold version cards. For the more expensive cards this will take more time, and the non-gold versions of those cards allows me to AT LEAST use those cards in battles while I working on deciding whether to upgrade the gold versions, and actually gradually work on buying the individual gold cards for those. This recent Orbs pack BINGE got to be a bit chaotic/messy, and I probably ended up losing a bit of DEC (although I did hit a "Corrupted Pegasys" (Gold) cards, which I the burned to buy more packs (Yikes!), but when all was said and done I ended up having a newly tweaked strategy of focusing more on buying up gold cards, AS WELL AS ended up with my "Corrupted Pegasys" (Gold) and "Minotaur Warrior" (Gold) cards at Level 3 (which enables all of their abilities), as well as maxing out MOST of the other Orbs cards, and getting my "Mermaid Healer" (Gold) and "Dwarvan Wizard" (Gold) cards up to Level 3, where they are most useful at all levels of play. If I hit some big airdrop cards in the remaining Untamed pre-sale drops I may go ahead and purchase the additional Orbs cards to max the most rare/expensive ones out, but at this point is makes ZERO sense to invest any more DEC in buying additional Orbs packs. Perhaps I will hit a few more JUICY cards in any additional Orbs packs I get in quest rewards over the next week or two (as there are only 8,794 Orbs packs remaining for sale on the market (as of writing this sentence). Fingers crossed.

Whew! These posts are growing dense - but that's okay. Take what resonates with you,and leave the rest. I hope you find some/any of these tips useful in increasing your understanding and/or skill level in the SteemMonsters (Splinterlands) and/or Drug Wars, and/or "Prospectors, and/or any other game(s) - and the " blockchain gaming " industry as whole - which I end up exploring as this series evolves. More JUICY tips to come with each weekly update, as I dig deeper into this whole REVOLUTIONARY PHENOMENON, and become more experienced and successful in the game(s).

See you on the battlefield...

Nice updates again!

It's great that you're venturing out into the creators of Splinterlands and checking out posts. There's a TON of really great stuff out there. Plus, tips, tricks, and ways to improve your game.

I've also gone on a few spending sprees lately... but mostly on steem and hive-engine... Even though those don't count towards airdrops, I love getting deals! 🥰

Have you noticed the other Hive blockchain games popping up? I'm excited! I just saw one the other day were you 'make beer'. 😂 I need to go check that one out.

Hugs!

Hey @carrieallen. Yeah, I have seen - on and off over the past year -- a few games pop onto the radar. The beer one you mention is a good concept, but it looks "inadequatey challenging" in the long term -- as I have now deemed #DrugWars to be. As I have done with a handful of games throughout the (now) 53 posts in this series, I use a METHODICAL approach to evaluating any new games that come onto the radar, primarily because the RISK of spending "x" amount of time on a game that turns out to be a "low ROI" relative to the overall progress (ex. DEC earnings AND skill/experience development that can be gained relative to time/energy expended in a more high-potential, established game like #Splinterlands) can be too high if the game ultimate has lower long-term viablility. This is the reason why I have decided to wean off of my more active Drug Wars activity -- I don't see long-term valiability, and/or skills/experience development with that game (it just feels like a suped-up calculator ;-). Splinterlands, on the other had is more like a proper "Chess-like" game (with the added bonus of the crypto "resource allocation" component. In some ways it is BETTER than chess, in my opinion (but I am probaby biased, because I was never able to really "go deep" with chess, even though I have tried numerous times). Also, I don't think that putting chess on the blockchain would have the same potential to invest in different "pieces" (like the cards in Splinterlands) - although maybe there are ways to add that gamification element into Chess (ex. perhaps "tokens per won battle", "tokens for tournaments", "varying levels of tokens based on a differential between the experienc elevel of opponents", etc.). I would LOVE to at least have the ABILITY to play and improve my chess game if it were properly put on the blockchain, with an adequate level of gamification to incentivize participation. Anyways, I'm rambling. Gotta get back to my daily quest (trying to hit "Campion I" level for the first time, this season). All of the JUICY cards I have been getting at Champion level the past few seasons are enabling me to build my overall collection nicely. Of course, that is always ENHANCED by the JUICY @splinterlands upvotes I have been getting on these series posts... Oh, look at that, it doesn't look like this post has received one yet ;->.....

Sometimes 'inadequately challenging' is just what I'm looking for. 🤣 But see what you're saying.

I'm still generally of the mindset that if I'm looking for fun... I'm cool paying for it. 😉 And I'm generally okay with knowing I'm simply paying for joy... and thus, my ROI is based solely on that... and less on money.

But! Yes, blockchain makes everything different.

Now, I can actually ENJOY stuff and potentially make a REAL ROI.

It's awesome.

I think Chess could be blockchained... it would be different than Splinterlands, yes, but could still work...

Oh! And yes! I was holding off to upvote, cause the VP was totes low by the time I got to you... And still kinda low when I hit ya! But we have a lot of awesome content out there lately. Thanks for being one of them!

I totally agree that everyone should be free to enjoy what they want. I was simply explaining the various aspects of what drives my "desires"... The nice thing about #Splinterlands is that it is BOTH enjoyable, AND stimulating, IN ADDITION TO enabling me to avoid being FORCED into an uncontrolled DESCENT down from the ranks of "pack addict" to "crack addict". After all, the "pack" at least has a longer "shelf life", all things considered...
