Today we are going to talk about Cursed Windeku which are nightmarish creatures that live in the deepest and darkest forests. They hunt at night, stalking their prey before attacking with their claws, while their thorn-like horns and natural healing ability provide an excellent defense, seems perfect for defending your cards on the battlefield but I will talk more about it in this post.
Cursed Windeku is a card that recently arrived in splinterlands along with chaos legion and it is a rare card of this edition, in addition it has 6 mana cost and the melee type attack, but what makes this card good to be used in battle field? That's the question I'm going to answer today.
He has 3 skills and I will talk about each of them but before that I will talk about their levels and stats.
I will speak based on the levels allowed in each league, and in bronze it can be used from level 1 to 2, in silver from level 1 to 4, in gold from level 1 to 6, in diamond from 1 to 8 which is its maximum level and champion is the same as diamond. Now that I've mentioned that, let's talk about each league its greatest utility.
In bronze where the maximum level of this card is level 2 it has 2 attack, 3 speed and 10 health. I don't consider his attack too high for his mana cost but his focus is not that, speed is reasonable and health is the main point because he is a card that you will use in first position, but that's not all because he has the Thorns Ability that makes him become even stronger on the battlefield, in case you don't know the Thorns ability causes when a melee card attacks Cursed Windeku it does 2 damage to this card, so even if its attack is not high it will still be a nuisance for melee cards and the more damage it does the better.
In silver your maximum level will be level 4 and the only big difference is your attack that becomes 3 instead of 2 and it starts to get more interesting because your attack is now reasonable but even so your focus is still is defend, so if he has 3 attack and the Thorns skill and depending on the amount of melee cards the enemy has then he will be a real problem for them and a great joy for you.
In the gold league the maximum level is 6 and it is from here that he starts to show his true power, his attack and speed remain the same but he gains the Heal skill which I consider an incredibly powerful skill for defensive cards, when a card has the skill Heal it heals 1/3 health on its turn and as Cursek Windeku has 11 health so it heals 3 health on its turn (1/3 of 11 would be 3.67 but there is no way to heal that amount and the value is always for low then becomes 3, if health was 12 then it would be 4 health healed and so on ), one more detail of the Heal skill is that the minimum healing is 2. So imagine the Cursed Windeku that has a lot of health so it will last a long time time in the battle, it has a reasonable attack so it will not only defend and also has the Thorns ability to fight back the attack of melee cards and to complete it still heals, an amazing card don't you think?
In the diamond league, his maximum level is 8 and it's the maximum level he reaches too, at this level he has 4 attack so his offensive power is already much better so I wouldn't say his main point is defense, besides he now has the Slow skill and with this skill he reduces the speed of all enemy cards by 1, so in addition to having a good attack and good defense with Thorns and Heal skills, he also has the Slow skill that will benefit all your cards as it will give them the opportunity to attack first.
So in my opinion he is an amazing card from the death deck for the first position and whenever I have the opportunity I use it, but now that we talk about his stats and abilities let's talk more about him in battle and I will also demonstrate with one.
The cards I chose were as follows:
As a summoner I chose Thaddius Brood and he decreases the magic attack of magic cards by 1 and also decreases the health of enemy cards by 1. As magic cards are often used so he is a good option to decrease their attack that are usually well strong, in addition to reducing the health of enemy cards is also a very good thing since the less health they have the better and also because it damages cards with the ability Heal for example, so if they can recover less health.
In the first position we have Cursed Windeku and I think I already gave all the details of why I chose him and put him in that position, but as you will see in battle he lasts a long time in battle and also causes a lot of damage not only with the attack but with the Thorns skill as well.
In the second position I chose Spineback Wolf because he is a melee card and has the Reach ability so he can attack in that position, but the main reasons why I chose him is because of his speed which is very high so he will almost always attack first and also the Thorns skill that makes him have a nice defense, in addition he also has 1 shield to make it difficult to be defeated quickly.
In the third position we have the Silent Sha-Vi which is a melee card that has the Sneak ability and this ability makes it attack the enemy card in the last position so it is quite useful as it will attack the enemy back line which is usually more vulnerable.
In fourth position I put the Twisted Jester and he has the Snipe ability that will make him attack magic or ranged cards and these cards tend to have a lot of damage or abilities so it's important to defeat them early.
In fifth position we have Skeleton Assassin which is also a melee card with the Sneak ability, so it will help Silent Sha-Vi eliminate cards from the back row.
And in the sixth position we have the Haunted Spider which is a ranged card with the Poison skill, and I consider this skill very useful since when the Haunted Spider attacks it has a chance to apply this effect and do 2 damage to this card at the end of turn then it would be as if the Haunted Spider had 4 attack instead of 2.
I'll show the battle now and see if it really pays to have Cursed Windeku on the field.
In this battle my opponent has good offensive power and also good defense since all cards will have 2 shield because of Truthspeaker and on my side of the battle I have little defense but a lot of offensive power, which side do you think will win?
In the first round I didn't lose any cards and managed to defeat the Shieldbearer which was the best defense they had and I still have Cursed Windeku on the field so my defense is still good for now.
In the second round I was able to eliminate only Pelacor Arbarest as it has the biggest offensive power of the enemy and in addition I also removed the shield from most of the cards so its defense is very low. On my side I ended up losing Twisted Jester but I still have a lot of cards and a lot of offensive power.
And in the third round the battle was decided and as you can see my Cursed Windeku is still standing so even though I had a lot of cards in the enemy camp they were not able to defeat him and besides that I ended up losing only one card which was the Jester, so as you can see this is a good combination for the death deck as it combines offense and defense well.
I really like Cursed Windeku so I'll leave his story down below in case you want to read it.
LORE
Cursed Windeku are nightmarish creatures that live in the deepest and darkest woods. They hunt at night, stalking their prey before attacking with their claws, while their thorn-like horns and natural healing ability provide an excellent defense,. They exude a pungent pheromone that reduces the reaction time of their victims, often allowing the Windeku to begin devouring them before they are dead. While these lifeless creatures may appear animalistic, they are highly intelligent. They have heeded the call put forth by the Lord of Darkness. Their thirst for blood is now focused on the Chaos Legion.
“I heard it again... that rustle of brush in the darkness of the forest. No mistaking it now. Something was stalking us.
I picked up my pace and urged Grewa to do the same. We hurried through the trees toward the inn. I could hear her panting behind me. Something howled then, but not like a wolf. Like a man who has gone mad with hunger.
I lost it. I ran. Ran as fast as my legs could carry me. And when I stumbled and fell and got up again, I realized I was alone. No sound of Grewa. No footfalls or heavy breath.
I rose to my feet and walked slowly back the way we'd come. I heard a sound. A wet, tearing sound. And in the middle of trees, not twenty yards away, I saw Grewa. And I saw it.
The beast was gaunt, its skin pulled tight over its bones. It was the ash-gray color of death, with sunken eyes, like a corpse recently risen from the grave, and twisted horns. And the smell. Oh, gods, the smell.
Its lips were tattered and bloody. It was Grewa's blood. It had torn her open and was feasting on her guts. And she... she was still moving. She let out a little whimper.
And I turned and I ran until I saw your light burning in the distance, and I kept running until I burst through the door.”
The man downed the rest of his tankard of ale and stared into the empty mug. The other patrons of the inn shifted in their seats.
“He's making it up,” one said.
