Lesmo - Yamaha ensures Valentino Rossi will miss the San Marino MotoGP series. However, they will not use a replacement rider to accompany Maverick Vinales.

Rossi had to ride the operating table after a motocross accident on Thursday (8/31/2017). Because of the accident, Rossi suffered a fracture of the tibia and fibula on his right foot.

Rossi was allowed to leave the hospital on Saturday (2/9). Raffaelle Pascarella, the doctor who operated on Rossi, called it took 30-40 days to recover.

These conditions make Rossi will not be able to appear in San Marino MotoGP in Misano this weekend. Yamaha ensure they will only lower Vinales in Misano and not wearing a replacement rider Rossi.

"The MotoGP Movistar Yamaha team regrets that Valentino Rossi will not be able to perform at Gran Premio Tribul Mastercard at San Marino e della Riviera in Rimini, which will be held this weekend," Yamaha wrote on its official website.

"The Yamaha factory team will be performing in the 13th MotoGP season of 2017 with Maverick Vinales as the only rider."

"Yamaha is praying for Valentino Rossi to recover quickly and hope to see him on the YZR-M1 as soon as possible."

Rossi is now ranked fourth in the standings with 157 points, 26 points adrift of Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso who tops the standings. 38-year-old rider reportedly was trying hard to be able to appear in MotoGP Aragon on 24 September.
