The French Arsene Wenger, Arsenal coach until next June, has today indicated his compatriot Patrick Vieira, former player of the 'Gunners' and current coach of New York City FC, as his successor on the bench of the London team.
Wenger announced this Friday that at the end of this course will step aside and leave, after 22 years, the Arsenal.
Patrick Vieira, who wore the red and white colors of the 'gunboats' between 1996 and 2005 - won three Leagues, three Cups and three Community Shields - is one of the names with which the British press speculates to take the reins of the club after the departure of Arsene.
"He's working in New York and working for Manchester City, but he's a person who has the potential to train Arsenal one day, yes," Wenger said of his former guard.
"I've followed his coaching career and I think he's doing very well, but there are a lot of ex-Arsenal players who have the potential, the knowledge and the intelligence to do it," he added.
Vieira, who after leaving Arsenal defended the shirts of Juventus, Inter Milan and Manchester City, hung up the boots in 2011 in this last team, before starting to work in the quarry of the 'Citizens' and take the reins of the New York City FC, of the US MLS, in January 2016.
El francés Arsene Wenger, técnico del Arsenal hasta el próximo mes de junio, ha señalado hoy a su compatriota Patrick Vieira, exjugador de los 'Gunners' y actual entrenador del New York City FC, como su sucesor en el banquillo del conjunto londinense.
Wenger anunció este viernes que al final del presente curso dará un paso al costado y dejará, después de 22 años, el Arsenal.
Patrick Vieira, quien vistió los colores rojo y blanco de los 'cañoneros' entre 1996 y 2005 -ganó tres Ligas, tres Copas y tres Community Shield (Supercopa) -, es uno de los nombres con lo que especula la prensa británica para tomar las riendas del club tras la marcha de Arsene.
"Está trabajando en Nueva York y trabaja para el Manchester City, pero es una persona que tiene el potencial para entrenar un día al Arsenal, sí", dijo Wenger sobre su antiguo pupilo.
"He seguido su carrera como entrenador y creo que lo está haciendo muy bien. Sin embargo, hay muchos exfutbolistas del Arsenal que tienen el potencial, el conocimiento y la inteligencia para hacerlo", añadió.
Vieira, que tras abandonar el Arsenal defendió las camisetas de Juventus, Inter de Milán y Manchester City, colgó las botas en 2011 en este último equipo, antes de empezar a trabajar en la cantera de los 'Citizens' y tomar las riendas del New York City FC, de la MLS estadounidense, en enero de 2016.
