The Ezekiel Elliott story - a mockery of the NFL leadership

in #sports7 years ago

He's suspended. He's not suspended. He's suspended. He's not suspended. The story of Ezekiel "Zeke" Elliott's on again, off again suspension is a sad sad story showing that the US appeals process is an incredibly useful stall tactic.

But really, how did we get to this point?

SB Nation wrote a pretty good piece breaking down exactly what has happened to date:

It's obvious the NFLPA (NFL Players Association) lawyers are just stalling, but I am unsure as to why the NFL is taking this course of action? Is it to prove a point? The original charges against Zeke were dropped and found to be completely fabricated so what are the charges?

I get it, NFL players need to be held to a higher standard than most considering they are so high profile... but is this the specific situation to do that? He was proven innocent in a court of law, yet you somehow find him guilty? That is backwards. You are dragging something out and just showing that the NFLPA union has more power than you, the owners and administration of the NFL.

Why not focus your efforts on making sure your players brains still function 10 years after they leave the league? Or working with the players to improve race relations in our country so they don't have to (or want to) kneel during the national anthem to reduce ratings?

No, instead we are dragging out a court case for a guy that was informed by a judge that he was innocent. I hope the suspension never sticks and the NFL administration is left in the dust. Set Zeke Free!

Stuff like this frustrates me. I don't need the NFL to be my moral compass. I want to watch very athletic people play a game every Sunday, not deal with a side show.

In the immortal words of Charles Barkley: "I am not a role model."

Agreed. The media definitely doesn't help the situation either with how the publicize the whole fiasco.

Innocent until proven guilty and we all know the court of public opinion is worth about 2 rusty nickels.

Let's see if he can find another way out this week. Here is to hoping he can't play come Eagles v Cowboys.
