The reason sports fans are terrible sports bettors

in #sports7 years ago (edited)

Try and find a sports fan who is an amazing sports bettor. I will save you some time, you won't find any.

The reason sports fans are horrible sports bettors is because they believe professional sports is about competition when in reality it is about entertainment.

Think of professional sports as entertainment similar to that of a television show. Professional sports is the original reality TV.

They know sports fans are not very intelligent and so the scripting of the games/matches is not as clean as could be. They make mistakes. They give out too much information. Sometimes they flat out tell you who is going to win.

All the major sports leagues are part of one manipulated industry.

Pattern recognition is the key to staying one step ahead of the sports industry. Pattern recognition is why I went 6-0 on the big 2 unit bets I released on Steemit.

It's all a game. Most are fooled by the illusion of professional sports and so most could not make a living betting on sports if they dedicated every moment of their life to it.

I understand that most sports bettors would disagree with me, keep in mind, these bettors are not very good at predicting the outcomes of sporting events. Think about it.

Sort:

Sports fans get emotionally attached to their teams - their bets are often sacrifcial loyalty offerings. When sentiment and the stats diverge then there's money to be made.

That's so true.

"Sacrificial loyalty offerings" is right.

Very true. When transitioning from fan to professional the first thing is to separate the head from the heart. I always used to have a poor record when betting on games that my old team was playing because my heart (one way or the other) would interfere.

Now I know better. There is something in most sports that I call the "Fairytale Factor" and it is something always worth betting on. You see it in the promotion of the games, the commentators start talking about fairytales for a particular player or team. Fans love a good fairytale coming true so it can be a good indicator of what is about to happen. Players believe in fairytales too so they often actually play better when it's on the line.

VERY true, wish you'd post more about how you recognize the patterns, and also a bit about "sometimes they flat out TELL YOU who is going to win". I'd like to see some more examples.
