What's Next For Carlo

in #sports5 years ago (edited)

On Tuesday, Carlo Ancelotti took charge of his last game as the manager of Napoli despite a 4-0 spanking of Genk to qualify for the knockout stages of this season's Champions League for the first time since the 2016/2017 season after just about 18 months in charge.

The Italian has marshalled a mix of success and failure in charge of the Naple side. This season has however not been a good one for the former Chelsea manager after prior to the Genk match, his team has gone 9 matches without a victory in all competitions and they currently sit 7th on the Serie A log, a whooping 17 points adrift the log leaders, Inter Milan.

It was very surprising that the sack came with just one tweet after the full-time whistle against Genk. It, however, was not very surprising as the relationship with the leadership of the club had soured for a few months after De Laurentis called for a retreat training for the team which Ancelotti obviously showed his displeasure at and went back to the hotel room with his team. While it is not known if that is part of the reasons for his sack, the fruit does not fall far from its tree.

Ancelotti may not be out of a job for a long time as he is reportedly highly linked to the Everton job and in some quarters, the Arsenal role. The former looks more likely.

MY OPINION

Carlo Ancelotti is no doubt a successful manager, having shown his prowess across Europe, in Italy, England and Germany.

In my honest opinion, I believe Ancelotti should just take a break from the job. He has not been overly successful in recent years, especially at Bayern Munich where he was also axed. Should he wish to take a job nonetheless, I would suggest Everton, rather than Arsenal.

The Arsenal job at this point needs a much younger, agile and energetic manager. the Everton job may still pass for him, even though I beleive he is a bigger man than that job. Nonetheless, he may still be able to help them salvage their season.
