Point Guard: What if Michael Jordan Played Point Guard

In the 1988-89 NBA season, Michael Jordan had just reportedly made it clear to the Bulls' front office that he "needed help." The solution? Head coach Doug Collins had the idea to move Jordan back to point guard, as he did play some in earlier parts of his career. This resulted in a 32.5/8.0/8.0 outburst from Jordan, as his versatility and all-around skillset began to become apparent. Though, with newly-appointed head coach Phil Jackson, he was moved back to his more comfortable position at thr two spot. And thus, Jordan's career skyrocketed.

The Scenario:

Assume Jackson makes us of the idea, would have Jordan's career altered for the best or the worst?

Case for better legacy:

At that point, Jordan could have been on pace to average the first triple-double season since Oscar Robertson, and would have been the first since to do so, even before Westbrook. Jordan would have also been able to contribute immensely on all aspects on the court, not only for becoming the deadliest scorers in the league but also the most lethal unicorns ever. Not only that, but Jordan's gap between LeBron James widens, as this battle of well-rounded athletes is more comparable. This also eliminates Jordan's seemingly heavy reliance on Pippen, as Pippen served as a key contributor to each of the six Bulls championships.

Case for worse legacy:

With Jordan's increased role on the offense, this would mean that his partner-in-crime, Scottie Pippen, would be limited to just an elite all-around defensive enforcer. This is because Pippen's bread-and-butter on the offense was much of the playmaking and the rebounding as well. With a Jordan-point system, it lessens Pippen's usage on the ball, resulting in less points generated from him. It could evolve into catastrophic consequences, with the championships being dictated solely through Jordan.

What do you think would have happened?
