The Serbian argued his discharge by needing "more rest and recovery time" and adds to Federer's absence. Rafa Nadal starts as a big favorite to the title.

The number one of the ATP ranking and newly proclaimed Wimbledon champion, Novak Djokovic, announced his withdrawal from the Montreal (Canada) tournament, sixth Masters 1,000 of the season, an absence motivated by the need for rest of the Serbian tennis player.

As indicated on the tournament website, the four-time Canadian tournament champion (2007 and 2011 in Montreal and 2012 and 2016 in Toronto), has decided to give his body "more rest and recovery time" and after a demanding participation in the grass of the All England Club, with an end that touched the five hours against the Swiss Roger Federer.

The absence of 'Nole', who did not defend many points because he fell before the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round, joins that of Basel, which already indicated after the final in London that that appointment would be skipped, and the Argentine Juan Martín del Potro, who suffered a broken kneecap in Queen's right knee. These losses leave Rafa Nadal, defender of the title, as a great favorite in the 1,000 Masters that begins on August 5.
