The team that Daniel Ricciardo will defend next season has been revealed. Ricciardo will race for Renault with a two-year contract.

Ricciardo is certain to part with Red Bull at the end of the 2018 season. Both sides have not reached a new contract agreement.

"This is probably one of the most difficult decisions in my career so far. But, I think it's time to take on new and fresh challenges," Ricciardo said in a statement quoted by Reuters.

"I realize that there are many things that must be done so that Renault can reach their target of competing at the highest level. But, I am impressed by their progress within two years," added the Australian rider.

"And I know that every time Renault goes into sports, they finally become champions," he said.

Ricciardo has defended Red Bull since 2014 and to date has appeared in 91 races with the team. He won seven wins with Red Bull, including wins in China and Monaco this year.

Ricciardo will later partner with Nico Hulkenberg at Renault. While the Red Bull seat left by Ricciardo is likely to be filled by Carlos Sainz, who is now a teammate of Hulkenberg at Renault.

"Renault decided to return to Formula 1 to compete to become world champion. Recruiting Daniel Ricciardo is a rare opportunity for Renault to achieve this goal, which should not be missed," said Renault President Jerome Stoll.
