Dune, anyone?

in #spt3 years ago

Do you remember the movie "Dune"? In that movie, there were HUUUUGE worms that would come out of the sand, swallowing everything that was unfortunate enough to be there. And I can imagine it was the inspiration to this week's featured card in Share your battle challenge!

The Sand Worm is a huge asset! It has massive damage, starts with 5 melee! And more:

  • 6 melee from level 4, and 7 at max level
  • Snare from level 6, and piercing at max level

Its only flaws are the high mana, and the low speed. But lower mana would make the card too powerful, so it's a good balance. And the second disadvantage, the low speed, can even be used in our advantage in reverse speed ruleset.

Besides, the snare ability helps to even out the speed difference when the monster in the back row has the flying ability.

When do I use it? Very frequently in high mana matches, especially in the only commons ruleset; using it with Malric or Daria further enhances the damage!

Off to the battle:

This batlle had an extra taste for me, being against the stronger summoner in the game: Zaku!

Rulesets

  • Equalizer: all monsters with the same health as the highest health monster
  • melee only monsters

My strategy:

  • Exploding dwarf as tank: the equaliser ruleset transforms the dwarf in one of the best in game tanks for me
  • Fineas rage as the offtank, good speed and high damage
  • Pit ogre: love this one when it gets enraged, huge damage and stun ability
  • Serpentine spy, very fast and useful to target the lower health monsters as the battle went by.
  • Sand worm, with the huge damage to try and take down the back row
  • Sperpent of the flame, a memory from the alpha edition! Very fast, with retaliate and poison. I tend to use it less these days, but was hoping the speed would help dodge some of the sneak attacks (as it did!), and retaliate and poison would come in handy.

Although the general level of the opposite team was lower, Zaku's abilities were balancing the odds.

In the middle of round two, battle was balanced, and sand worm was proving useful.

Starting round 3, still balance, but pit ogre already enraged due to the blast damage proved to be really useful. As as we progressed to round 4...

Sand worm delivered the killing blow on the back row, and only one monster left on the opposite team! Already with 18 HP due to scavenge ability, but with only 1 attack and against my 4 cards... it was a win!

How exciting are these times for Splinterlands? 😉

See you on the battlefield!

Nop... didn't see the movie. Didn't read a book either.
But a similar worm was in the last Hobbit :p

I like this card!

I loved the movie, and just found out a remake is coming this year! Besides, I spent HOURS playing Dune, they made a great strategy computer game after the movie. And yes, love the card too!

I still know the film from that time. But I'm already looking forward to the remake that will soon be in theaters. Hopefully.

Thanks for sharing! - @cieliss

Excellent lineup, Sand worm plus your summoner Zaku together, they are strong opponents !!
