It is amazing to me that what seems such a simple game, has so many different strategies and outcomes.
I found Splinterlands like 2-3 years ago. And this is why I didn't play. It seemed like such a simple (and therefore quick to become boring) game. I really regret that. Not just because I missed my chance to make tons of money but now I realize, like you have, the game is deceptively deep on strategy. So many rulesets, situations, cards, and counters to learn. I've been playing quite a lot for about 6 months now and still don't have the best grasp on things. It is a fun game. 😀
