First Floating Storage Regasification Units in the Netherlands

Hi Hivers,

You are aware we have an energy crisis already a year almost. And things have worsened. Especially impacted is Germany for reasons they better explain themselves but the Dutch are not sitting still.

Some technical background:

  • Natural gas (NG) is pumped under high pressure through pipes towards consumers.
  • Liquid petrol gas (LPG) comes in ships and must be converted to gas and later on land Nitrogen is added.

So when a country buys LPG in Qatar or the USA they must convert - warm it up - to gas. The Netherlands has plant one in Rotterdam, is building a Hydrogen plant in the North ( a bit delayed) and now has got a floating plant to convert LNG to gas also in the North where we boarder Germany; This is also where the Dutch gas fields are and seawater to warm the LPQ. Can you follow still.?

As it happens the Netherlands has a rich marine history and oil industry and companies like Shell (now British) and SBM Offshore, Fugro compete globally. And there are more large private firms like Heerema roaming for jobs globally. Yet alone the salving companies who are the largest except the Chinese one.

All things our left government does not appreciate enough in good times just like our farmers are not appreciated by the current government. (frustration is out now)

How is your cuntry dealing with the energy crisis?

As for Spain I already know: They have like 9 of these plants already but have no pipelines to France!

Interesting, I didn’t know LPG Needed to be warmed up to turn into a gas. Good to know these ships are helping to somewhat alleviate The need for a Russian gas.
